Karan Brown-Director of Education at Numu Nurseries
Karan Brown is a deeply committed educator whose career spans over three decades across the Middle East and India, defined by one driving purpose: to give every child the strongest, most nurturing foundation in their earliest years. Today, as the Director of Education at Numu Nurseries, Karan brings this mission to life through a powerful blend of research-driven curriculum, compassionate leadership, and a steadfast belief in the potential of every child.
At Numu, education is not just about preparing children for school, it’s about preparing them for life. Under Karan’s guidance, the nursery’s entire approach is built around the Neuro-Mapped British EYFS curriculum, a custom model inspired by cutting-edge neuroscience and early childhood research from institutions like Harvard University. Here, the focus isn’t on worksheets or early academics, but on responsive, relationship-based learning. “Real learning happens through connection,” Karan explains. “That back-and-forth between adult and child, what we call ‘Serve and Return’, is where the brain is truly shaped.”
This belief sits at the core of Karan’s educational philosophy: that a child’s emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging must come first. From that secure base, children at Numu are invited to explore, question, and create in thoughtfully designed environments that reflect both innovation and empathy. While screen-free tools like LEGO Education kits, programmable toys, and puzzles are woven into the experience, they are never the starting point. For Karan, curriculum leads the way, with technology serving to enhance, not replace, human interaction.
Her warm, whole-child approach is matched by her impressive track record. Karan has held senior leadership positions across several prominent educational organizations, including Al Najah Education, and the KBBO Group, where she served as Head of Education. At GEMS, she held a key leadership role contributing to strategic initiatives and educational excellence across the group. She has launched and transformed nurseries and schools, led KHDA and ADEK licensing efforts, and built academic frameworks that have become benchmarks in the region. Across every role, Karan is known not only for her strategic insight but for the deep care she brings to every project, ensuring that both educators and children are empowered to thrive.
Holding a Master of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and certification as a Program Leader with the University of Cambridge International Examination, Karan remains a lifelong learner herself. But above all credentials, her most defining quality is her heart. As she puts it, “The first thousand days of life are the most powerful in shaping who we become. What we do with those days matters, deeply.”
With Numu expanding across Dubai, Karan continues to build not just schools, but safe, inspiring spaces where children feel seen, supported, and excited to discover the world. Under her leadership, early education becomes more than a phase, it becomes a joyful, transformative journey.
