Duo steal onion bags worth Dhs300, jailed for 3 months

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a porter and his friend to three months in jail to be followed by deportation on charges of attempting to steal 10 bags of onions worth Dhs300.

The case dates back to last September when a guard working for an establishment for selling vegetables and fruits in Al Aweer filed a complaint in which he stated that a porter tried to steals bags of onions from a truck parked a few meters away from the company.

The complainant stated in the investigations that he saw the porter approaching a truck belonging to the establishment and unloading the onion bags into a cart for transporting goods.

He added that when he approached the truck, he saw another man helping the porter to steal onion bags, taking advantage of the darkness of the night.

As many as 10 bags of onions were in their possession.

The police arrested the defendants and referred them to the public prosecution. The porter confessed to the charge of stealing onions with the help of his friend.
