Security staff escorts Marine Le Pen to safety after she was pelted with eggs.
Gulf Today Report
The leader of the far-right National Front party, Marine Le Pen, was pelted with eggs during her tour in a street in visiting Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, northern France, in support of her party’s candidate in the upcoming legislative elections.
Video showed the far-right leader is whisked away by her party people as eggs were seen thrown on her way.
It is noteworthy, that there has been a surge in far-right populism in France over the past few years.
Le Pen has been at the forefront of the movement.
In April, French President Emmanuel Macron defeated his far-right rival Le Pen by a comfortable margin, securing a second term and heading off what would have been a political earthquake.
The first projections showed Macron securing around 57-58% of the vote. Such estimates are normally accurate but may be fine-tuned as official results come in from around the country.
