Sheikh Mohammed establishes Dubai Council for defining future vision of emirate

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, issued Law No. /21/ of 2021 regarding the establishment of the Dubai Council, with the aim of anticipating and developing the future development agenda of the emirate to ensure the consolidation of its regional competitiveness and leadership and internationally, reinforcing its global appeal as a preferred city to live and work.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed that the government administration is constantly changing to keep pace with global changes and the speed with which governments make decisions dramatically accelerates the growth process.

Sheikh Mohammed said, “We have various paths in managing our development process in order to raise the efficiency and competitiveness of our government work.”

The main aim of Dubai Council is to undertake business and administrative actions that ensure the achievement of its objectives, which revolve around the definition of the features and future directions of Emirate.

The Dubai Council aims to formulate and develop the future development agenda of the Emirate of Dubai in a manner that guarantees its global competitiveness, enhances its leadership and attractiveness, by launching major qualitative projects and transformational and unusual initiatives for the emirate approved by the Council, with the aim of making developmental leaps that contribute to providing a better life for its citizens, residents.

The Dubai Council is chaired by Sheikh Mohammed, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum as Deputy, and Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum as Deputy, and also included in its membership: Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Matar Mohammed Al Tayer, Major General Talal Humaid Belhoul, Abdullah Mohammed Al Basti, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, and Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al In accordance with the law establishing the Dubai Council, it is responsible for overseeing development  a “general commissioner”  appointed by  decision of the president.

The development path includes a number of entities determined by the appointment decision.

The Commissioner General is responsible for overseeing the development process and managing its affairs, and strives to ensure that the highest international standards are met.

Vice-Presidents follows the overall performance of the development path and its processing projects and plans, as well as overseeing the commissioner general and project managers and evaluating their performance.

The law establishing the Dubai Council requires the Executive Board to assume the functions of the General Secretariat and provide the support the Council and assist it in the performance of its tasks, including administrative and technical support, the preparation of decisions and recommendations and the conduct of research.

The Head of the Executive Bureau or a person delegated by him assumes the functions of Secretary General of the Dubai Council, provided that it is within its powers to oversee the  implementation of the tasks entrusted by the General Secretariat in order to support the Council and enable it to achieve its goals.
