Taxi fare in Sharjah up by Dhs4, a ride will cost at least Dhs17.5-19.5

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has raised the taxi tariff in the emirate by Dhs4 as of first of July, based on the decision issued by the Sharjah Executive Council, to amend the taxi fare, to keep pace with the changing fuel prices.

The starting of taximeter will change depending on the fuel prices approved by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the SRTA said in an official statement.

The taxi tariff in Sharjah witnessed a noticeable change that was touched by passengers, who use taxi.

Previously, taximeter was starting trip from Dhs3 during the time between 8:00am and 10:00pm with a minimum fare of Dhs13.5, and during the time between 10:00pm and 6:00am, starting from Dhs5 with a minimum fare of Dhs15.5.

Currently, with the increase in fuel prices, the taximeter starts from Dhs7 during the time between 8:00am and 10:00pm with a minimum fare of Dhs17.5, and during the time between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am, starts from Dhs9 with a minimum fare of Dhs19.5.

In a previous statement, the SRTA announced that the development of a policy for tariff pricing and following-up of its enforcement comes in implementation of its strategy aimed at providing the best services in the transport sector and to cope up with the current economic changes caused by the hike in the fuel price.

It also pointed out that the amendment comes within the framework of the authority’s efforts to improve the quality of service offered to the public, affirming that it will have a positive effect on improving the level of services. Furthermore, the SRTA affirmed its keenness to develop its fleet to offer high end service to its customers.
