Dr Barakat elected as first Vice-President of World Federation for Chess Composition

The 64th World Congress of Chess Composition concluded with the World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC) Presidency elections.

The elections were held at the Novotel Hotel in Fujairah.

Two candidates, including Marjan Kovacevic and Thomas Maeder, were contenders for the post of president of the WFCC.

After securing 13 votes, Kovacevic became the new president of the WFCC.

Kovacevic has been a FIDE Grandmaster in composition since 2007 and in solving since 1988. In previous years, he held the position of WFCC Vice-President.

The elections were also held to choose three other positions.

Dr. Adbulla AAL Barakat, Chairman of the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club, was elected as the World Federation for Chess Composition’s first Vice President after receiving the necessary votes.

Dr. Barakat dedicated the international achievement to the UAE’s wise leadership and praised them for their unflinching support.

Dr. Barakat emphasized that His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Muhammad Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Members and Ruler of Fujairah, together with his astute vision and unwavering support, paved the way for the remarkable success that resulted in obtaining the international position.

He also thanked Sheikh Saleh Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, head of the Department of Industry and Economy, for his generous support.

Lithuania’s Vidmantas Satkus was elected as the second Vice-President, and Dinu-Ioan Nicula of Romania took the position of the third Vice-President.
