Pakistan cricket star Afridi joins KP police as honorary DSP and goodwill ambassador

For the first time, Shaheen Afridi was seen in the police uniform.

The game of the cricket is one of the most followed sports in the sub-continent and especially in Pakistan and cricketers get celebrity-like status as can be seen in the case of the left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi.

In a bid to promote the soft image of police among the public, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police department has appointed Shaheen Afridi as “Goodwill Ambassador” and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on Monday.

The KP police on their Twitter account posted the video and photos of the special ceremony held in Peshawar city in honour of Shaheen Afridi, during which Inspector General (IG) of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari pinned the badges of honorary DSP on the pacer. For the first time, Shaheen Afridi was seen in the police uniform.

Addressing the ceremony, Shaheen Afridi said that becoming a goodwill ambassador for the KP police is an honour for him. The cricket star paid tribute to the martyrs of the police force and praised everyone for playing a vital role in ensuring safety of the citizens. Saluting the police force, he highlighting their selfless services for the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaheen Afridi said that since his father was a retired officer of KP police, it can prove to be a thankless job. He also said that his brother is still working in the police department.

The left-arm pacer further said that the duty of a policeman is very difficult.

The nitizens hope that the cricket star will play his role in fight against the use of drugs among the young generation and educate youth as most of them now a days are involved in this social evil.
