Sharjah Police lift soccer title as Labour Sports Tournament comes to a close

The Sharjah Police team overcame Fast Contracting in a thrilling soccer final as the curtains came down on the sixth edition of the Sharjah Labour Sports Tournament concluded with a glittering ceremony on Saturday.

Organised by the Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah in cooperation with the Sharjah Sports Council, the three-month tournament attracted approximately 1,600 players who formed 100 teams, representing various government, private, departments and establishments.

Playing in the final at the Sharjah National Park sports field, the Sharjah Police and Fast Contracting tried their best to gain the upper hand, but the scores were locked at 2-2.

Finally, the Sharjah Police team evaded their opponents’ defense and scored in the dying minutes to win the game 3-2.

They got gold for winning the football title, while Fast Contracting received silver, and the On Plan Real Estate team finished third.

The best player of the tournament award went to Mohammed Mustafa Hims from the Fast Contracting team, the best scorer was Sufian Hammam from the Al Hilal team, the best goalkeeper was Jabir Mohammed from the Sharjah Police team, and the best coach was Adel Abdul Karim from Sharjah Police.

The closing ceremony was attended by Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Chairman of the Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah, Omar Salim Al Sharji, Director of Labour Standards and Policies at the Labour Standards Development Authority, Tariq Salem Al Khanbashi, Chairman of the organizing company Reach Target, and a number of officials in the sports sector, as well as representatives of the participating teams.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, Salem Al Qaseer expressed delight over the success of the sixth edition of the Sharjah Labour Sports Tournament.

“The tournament has succeeded in encouraging workers to adopt sports as a healthy lifestyle.”

He attributed the success of the tournament to the support of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the follow-up of Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Chairman of the Executive Council. They are both encouraging labour sports, he added.

He pointed out that the tournament came to complement the sports boom in Sharjah and to integrate labour sports into the sports scene of the Emirate to add a new chapter to Sharjah’s sports achievements.

“The LSDA is proud of the increased interest of the participating teams and the success of the tournament, which is the first of its kind in the country. By organizing it, we seek to devote ourselves to the idea of teamwork, on which sports are based, and to contribute to promoting labour sports,” Qaseer added.

Salem Al Qaseer thanked the Sharjah Sports Council, the organizing company Reach Target, and all those who contributed to the success of the tournament, including sponsors and institutions from the government and private sectors.

The LSDA chairman gave away the prizes to the winners.

Meanwhile, in the basketball final, the UAS team were crowned champions following their victory over the GMG team. The Friends team finished third.

Clinching another title, the Sharjah Police team won the volleyball final after beating Club Dunes.

In cricket, the first place went to the Wekaya team, the second to the Bee’ah team, and the third to the Abonmed team.

The Oscar team defeated UAE Falcon Hockey Club in the final.
