Taher emerges winner as Sharjah International Chess Academy celebrates anniversary

The talented Sharjah Cultural Chess Club player Zayed Sultan Al Taher managed to win the U-18 title at the International Classic Chess Championship.

The championship titled ‘Plan and Think’ was held in the U-18 and U-12 categories, respectively, and was organized by Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club with the participation of 119 players from 18 countries.

Plaestine’s Abu Azizah Raji Sayel, and Taher were locked in a thrilling battle after being tied on scores.

Sharjah Cultural Chess Club Saud Jaber Al Zarouni finished third with 6 points.

Bulgarian FIDE Women World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova graced the closing ceremony.

Prominent among those who were present during the closing ceremony were Jamal Issa Al Midfa, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, Omar Noman Al Ali, Assistant Secretary-General, Rajai Al Susi, Executive Director of the club, and a large number of fans, coaches, and administrators of participating clubs and academies.

In the U-12 category, India’s Savin Savar, a player of the Sharjah International Academy, managed to bag top honours following his seventh consecutive victory in his last round at the expense of his Syrian rival, Osama Al Shami.

The organizing committee of the tournament gave special prizes to the winners of the young age group competitions.

India’s Yudai Mishra won the award for the best player in the U-10 category, and his compatriot Edvik Mundada won the award for the best player in the U-8.

After the end of the honoring the winners, all the attendees celebrated the anniversary of the opening of the Sharjah International Chess Academy, which has completed its third year.

The special cake, decorated with the academy’s logo, was cut amidst the great joy of the academy players and the players participating in the tournament.
