Samsung’s One UI 8.5 might just save your vacation photos

Samsung’s next big software update, One UI 8.5, is shaping up to be more than just a fresh coat of paint. Thanks to some private firmware leaks that are currently making the rounds, we are getting our first look at the Galaxy S26 series software – and it includes a brilliant little feature hidden inside the My Files app that could save you from a major headache while traveling.

What Happened

According to code strings spotted in the leaked software, Samsung is testing a feature that automatically nudges you to clear out your storage when it detects you are on a trip.

The app essentially tells you to “clean up before you run out of space” so you have enough room to “take more vacation photos and videos.” It’s a smart, proactive warning. While the code doesn’t explicitly say how it knows you are traveling, it almost certainly uses your location data or roaming status to figure out that you’ve left your home region. Just like your phone knows to update the time zone, it now knows you probably want to take a lot of pictures.

Why It Matters & What’s Next

We have all been there: you are standing in front of a monument or trying to record a concert, and suddenly the dreaded “Storage Full” notification pops up. It kills the moment instantly.

This potential feature tries to solve that problem before it happens. Instead of scrambling to delete old memes while the sunset fades, My Files would step in early, suggesting you delete duplicates or clear cache before you start snapping away. It shows that Samsung is focusing on real-world usability with One UI 8.5, alongside visual tweaks to apps like the Clock, Calculator, and Quick Settings.

However, there is a catch. This feature wasn’t listed in the official changelog for the leaked build, which means Samsung might still be testing it. They have to figure out the privacy aspect and make sure it doesn’t get annoying.

Since One UI 8.5 is expected to launch with the Galaxy S26 next year, we will have to wait and see if this helpful little travel buddy makes the final cut. But if it does, it’s going to be a lifesaver for anyone who tends to over-pack their digital suitcase.
