For years, the idea of Tesla and SpaceX becoming a single company has lived somewhere between ambitious business theory and Elon Musk fan fiction. The two companies already share DNA, leadership influence, engineering talent, and long-term goals. But every time the topic surfaced, it felt more like an interesting thought experiment than a realistic possibility. Now, one of the most important people at SpaceX has added fresh fuel to the conversation. Speaking in a recent CNBC interview, SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell was asked about the possibility of closer ties between Tesla and SpaceX. Her response wasn’t a flat-out…

Brazil has more World Cup titles than anyone, five of them to be precise, but after going through five straight tournaments without adding to that count, the team is leaning hard on data this time. Every player wears a sensor-packed “smart vest” tracking field position (via GPS), heart rate, and a stat called “player load,” the same kind of numbers that your Whoop band or Apple Watch brags about, but tuned specifically for the sport. So what exactly do these smart vests track? The vests sit under the jersey, and Brazil uses them for its men’s, women’s, and youth teams.…
Every transparent OLED demo I’ve seen so far looks amazing for about ten seconds, right before I notice how dim or smudgy it actually looks. A big part of the problem is the role that electrodes play in the design. A transparent display requires a see-through electrode that sits on top of incredibly delicate organic light-emitting layers. However, most of the usual options either conduct electricity poorly or risk damaging those layers during manufacturing. So how exactly does this new electrode get made? A team at Seoul National University, led by professor Yongtaek Hong, just found a way around that,…
Meta’s aggressive push into artificial intelligence is facing growing resistance from an unexpected group: its own employees. According to a recent report from WIRED, frustration inside Meta has reached a boiling point following a series of AI-related restructuring efforts, layoffs, and workplace policies. The tensions became public this week when an employee interrupted a company-wide livestream with an expletive-filled rant directed at Meta’s AI leadership, shocking thousands of colleagues watching the presentation. The incident may sound like an isolated outburst, but employees say it reflects a much broader problem inside the company. Over the past several months, Meta has reorganized…
When shopping for a new laptop, most buyers compare specifications like performance, battery life, display quality, and price. But a new AI-powered initiative could soon add another metric to that list: carbon footprint. Researchers are developing AI agents capable of calculating and displaying the environmental impact of consumer electronics in real time, potentially giving shoppers instant access to sustainability information before making a purchase. The effort aims to bring the kind of emissions transparency already available in services like flight booking platforms to the world of consumer technology. Today, consumers can easily compare the carbon emissions of different flights through…
For months, the conversation around Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses has swung between fascination and suspicion. Are they the future of wearable computing, or just another gadget raising uncomfortable questions about privacy? This week, the glasses found themselves at the center of a very different story. The most meaningful upgrade yet for Meta’s smart glasses Meta is partnering with the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) and nonprofit technology group TechSoup to make Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses available to more than 130,000 legally blind veterans across the United States. The glasses are being positioned as an accessibility tool that could help users navigate…
Anthropic’s troubles with the US government do not seem to be easing. The company has now been ordered to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign nationals, including foreign national Anthropic employees working inside the United States. Anthropic said it received the directive on June 12 and is disabling the two models for all customers to comply. Other Anthropic models are not affected. The government has not publicly explained the full national security concern, but Anthropic says it understands the order is linked to a reported method for bypassing, or jailbreaking, Fable 5’s safeguards. A fresh…
