About 2,000 climate activists attending the ongoing COP28 in Dubai have joined the global action on Saturday — demanding climate justice and protection of human rights. Carrying a huge black banner emblazoned with “Ceasefire Now” in bold letters, written in English and Arabic, the protesters shouted their call while marching around the UN-controlled Blue Zone. “We are coming together to march for climate justice to show solidarity with the people of Palestine and demand ceasefire now,” speakers at the protest said. From the UAE to Uganda, more than 300 cities are standing up for Palestine for the Global Day of…
The United States’ veto of a proposed United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza was a “complete disappointment,” Turkey’s ministry of foreign affairs has said. “Our friends once again expressed that America is now alone on this issue, especially in the voting held at the United Nations today,” Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with state broadcaster TRT on Friday. He spoke after a meeting with his counterparts from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League who met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington. The feeling of…

Looking back, 2023 was a banner year for Mac gaming. As a gamer, it feels really surreal to say that, given how disappointing the past has been. But it’s true — and for the first time in a long time, the sun is shining on Mac gamers. We’ve had the M3 series of chips with hardware ray tracing, mesh shading, and improved GPUs. On the software side, Apple has built-in tools like Game Mode and a game porting toolkit into macOS. And some massive games have come to the Mac, including Baldur’s Gate 3 and Lies of P. Yet despite…
India’s environment minister, Bhupender Yadav, on Saturday demanded “equity and justice” in UN climate negotiations, holding that rich countries should be leading global climate action. The comments underlined India’s long-held position that, as a developing country, it should not be a forced to cut its energy-related emissions — even as it is the world’s third-biggest emitting country after China and the United States. With the COP28 climate summit in Dubai scheduled to end on Tuesday, delegates were working to resolve an impasse over whether to address the future use of fossil fuel. India and other countries whose economies rely on…
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Saturday the United States was “responsible for the bloodshed” of children in Gaza after it vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in the territory. “The president has described the American position as aggressive and immoral, a blatant violation of all humanitarian values and principles, and holds the United States responsible for the bloodshed of Palestinian children, women, and elderly in Gaza” due to its support for Israel, said a statement from Abbas’s office. Washington’s veto at a special meeting of the Security Council on Friday scuttled the growing efforts towards…

South Africa have several unfamiliar faces for the three-match Twenty20 International series with India that gets under way at Kingsmead on Sunday, but captain Aiden Markram says they will impose their attacking style ahead of next year’s World Cup. Having rested a number of leading players, the hosts have named batters Matthew Breetzke and Donovan Ferreira, and seamers Ottniel Baartman, Nandre Burger and Lizaad Williams in their squad for the series. Beuran Hendricks, who has not played for the team in over two years, was also a late inclusion on Friday after regular Lungi Ngidi pulled out with injury. “We…
