Tesla’s new Roadster could finally debut next month, but there’s an emphasis on “hopefully”

Tesla actually announcing the next Roadster is becoming more of a meme than a reality at this point. Even Elon Musk leaned into it with an April 1, 2026 reveal date. But the Roadset seems to be in the spotlight again, with Elon hinting at the reveal next month.

In a recent tweet, Musk said that the long-awaited electric sports car will “hopefully” be unveiled next month, adding that it will “probably” happen in late April.

Why that “probably” should worry you

If anything about this sounds familiar, it’s because the next-gen Roadster has been stuck in a cycle of ambitious launch timelines and delays for years. Back in early November 2025, Tesla suggested an April 1 reveal date, which Musk framed with a bit of humor to give deniability.

But with the date now shifted to a bit further back, there are only two possible outcomes. One, Tesla is finally locking in something more concrete for the reveal; or two, it’s just another series of delays and shifted timelines. And my bet is on the latter.

Big promises, bigger expectations

To recall, the second-generation Tesla Roadster was first announced as a concept in 2017, with an original launch window of 2020. Since then, the release timeline has been constantly pushed back due to shifting priorities, engineering challenges, and a bunch of other reasons.

So the words “hopefully” and “probably” aren’t inspiring any confidence right now. Still, the Tesla Roadster might finally be unveiled next month. But until it actually happens, it’s probably best not to hold your breath.
