Audi A2 e-tron is coming this Fall as the German label’s entry-level EV

Audi is reviving one of its most unusual cars, and this time it’s going electric. The brand has just confirmed the new Audi A2 e-tron as a new entry-level EV that will be unveiled later this year.

This marks a significant push for its electric lineup, whilst also calling on the cult classic. If the name rings a bell, this electric car is based on the original Audi A2, which debuted in the early 2000s. It was an innovative, super-lightweight, and highly aerodynamic hatchback best known for its aluminum construction and efficiency.

The A2 wasn’t a huge commercial success, but its fans praised it for being ahead of its time. Now, Audi is giving that idea a second shot, with batteries instead of petrol.

Why is this a big deal?

Based on the official announcement, it seems like Audi is planning on positioning its new A2 e-tron below the Q4 e-tron. In other words, this can be the most accessible electric vehicle from the company. This is a big shift, considering how Audi has typically focused on the premium segment with its EVs.

But the new move signals a push towards affordable electric cars, which is something the brand hasn’t fully explored yet. This isn’t the first time the A2 was seen with an electric makeover. Way back in 2011, Audi unveiled a futuristic A2 electric concept. Though no one expected this concept to actually hit the market nearly 15 years later.

Audi A2 Front

The A2 e-tron could return to efficiency-focused design, which was core to the original A2. This new EV could serve as a proper replacement for discontinued models like the Q2, while allowing the brand to better compete with compact EVs from rivals as well.

Audi will be announcing the A2 e-tron in fall 2026, and it could end up being one of the most important EVs in Audi’s lineup. But only if it gets the balance right.
