Dubai, UAE

Mr. Mohamed Al Hashemi, CEO of Union Coop, affirmed that maintaining the quality of fruits and vegetables and ensuring their daily availability to consumers are among the cooperative’s highest priorities. He noted that Union Coop has developed an integrated supply chain management system that utilises advanced technologies to ensure products reach customers at the highest levels of quality and freshness.

He explained that Union Coop follows stringent procedures when receiving products at its distribution centres and branches, in accordance with the highest international food safety standards. These measures include implementing the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system (HACCP), conducting periodic laboratory tests, and engaging independent auditing entities to verify product quality and safety before they are offered for sale.

Al Hashemi added that the cooperative maintains frequent replenishment cycles across its branches, helping preserve product freshness and ensure daily availability. Union Coop also utilises artificial intelligence systems for demand forecasting and inventory management, enabling it to improve stock availability while reducing product loss and food waste.

He noted that Union Coop relies on a diversified supplier network comprising local farms as well as suppliers from Jordan, Spain, Morocco, and Türkiye. This diversified sourcing approach ensures the year-round availability of products despite seasonal fluctuations, while enhancing supply chain resilience and market stability.

Al Hashemi emphasised that reducing food waste is a fundamental component of Union Coop’s sustainability strategy. The cooperative applies intelligent demand planning, continuous inventory rotation, and employee training based on international best practices in fresh produce management.

He further stated that supporting local production, diversifying supply sources, and investing in advanced technologies are key pillars of Union Coop’s contribution to strengthening national food security and ensuring the year-round availability of fresh, safe, and high-quality products for consumers.
