Awqaf Abu Dhabi Launches Waqf Roadshow to Drive Sustainability

• Initiative targets university and school students, public and private sector organisations, and community councils to raise awareness of endowment (waqf) as a driver of sustainable development
• Roadshow begins in September with Higher Colleges of Technology, United Arab Emirates University and Zayed University as part of a wider community outreach programme

Abu Dhabi, 21 September 2026: The Endowments and Minors’ Funds Authority – Awqaf Abu Dhabi has launched a community awareness roadshow aimed at promoting the culture of endowment (waqf) and enhancing public understanding of its economic and social value through a series of interactive sessions and workshops targeting schools, universities, public and private sector organisations, as well as community councils “Majales”, and community centres across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The initiative forms part of Awqaf Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its position as a leading authority in the development of a modern endowment sector while providing the community with a deeper understanding of endowment as a sustainable development tool that supports national priorities and delivers long-term social and economic impact. The first phase of the roadshow will begin in September with visits to Nabd Al Falah Community Hub, the Higher Colleges of Technology, the United Arab Emirates University and Majlis Al Shahamah.

The programme will feature informative and interactive sessions exploring the concept of endowment, its historical evolution, and its contribution to sustainable development, while also highlighting Awqaf Abu Dhabi’s model for developing the endowment sector in line with international best practices. The sessions will also highlight the role of endowment in financing sustainable social initiatives and strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors and academic institutions, contributing to a stronger culture of social responsibility, and encouraging greater participation in endowment initiatives.

Fahad Abdulqader Al Qassim, Director General of the Endowments and Minors’ Funds Authority – Awqaf Abu Dhabi, said: “Promoting the culture of endowment is a cornerstone of Awqaf Abu Dhabi’s mission. We firmly believe that endowment is far more than a historical legacy; it is a dynamic development tool capable of addressing evolving societal challenges and supporting sustainable development. Through this roadshow, we aim to deepen public understanding- particularly among young people – of the importance of endowment and its ability to generate lasting impact across generations. We also seek to strengthen collaboration with academic institutions and public and private sector organisations to build a more innovative and sustainable endowment ecosystem.”

The roadshow will also contribute to expanding the strategic partnerships led by Awqaf Abu Dhabi across a wide range of institutions, supporting the development of innovative endowment initiatives and strengthening the sector’s contribution to social and economic development, in line with the vision of Abu Dhabi and the UAE to build a more sustainable and cohesive society.

The programme will continue over the coming months with visits to additional schools, government entities, private sector organisations, community councils “Majalis”, and community centres through a comprehensive awareness programme featuring lectures, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. The initiative aims to reinforce public understanding of endowment and strengthen its position as one of the most effective tools for sustainable development.
