Apple’s best apps and games list just dropped and now we know its plans for 2026

Apple just dropped its list of the best apps and games of 2025, picking 17 winners out of 45 finalists. The company says these are the ones that really nailed it on design, tech, and cultural impact. The list covers pretty much everything – from productivity tools and creative apps to fitness trackers and games running on everything from your iPhone to the Vision Pro.

Tim Cook gave the usual speech about these apps “enriching people’s lives,” but if you look past the PR talk, the winners actually tell us a lot about where tech is going right now. It’s all about AI helping us get work done, video getting more immersive, and gaming finally feeling at home on Mac and mixed reality.

On the app side, Tiimo got the nod for using AI to help people visually plan their day and break down big goals. Detail is making video editing way less intimidating on the iPad, while Essayist is basically a lifesaver for students, automating all that annoying academic formatting on Mac. Then there’s Explore POV on the Vision Pro, which is pushing the envelope on travel experiences by dropping you right into the action with immersive video.

Strava got recognized for its killer Apple Watch integration, and HBO Max earned props for adding American Sign Language content, which is a huge win for accessibility.

For the gamers, Pokémon TCG Pocket was a standout for finally making card battling feel native on a phone. DREDGE brought its creepy-cozy fishing mystery to the iPad, and Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition winning on Mac is a serious flex, proving that Apple Silicon can actually handle heavy AAA titles now.

Why It Matters & What’s Next

Apple’s awards are usually a good cheat sheet for what the company cares about. This year, it’s clear: they want to show off AI features, prove that Macs can game, and get people excited about the Vision Pro.

Apple TV

For us regular users, this list is less of a “ranking” and more of a curated discovery tool. With millions of apps out there, these are the ones Apple thinks are actually worth your time. For developers, winning one of these is basically a golden ticket for downloads.

Apple hasn’t announced any big new programs alongside the awards, but you can bet that throughout 2025, we’re going to see them keep pushing these exact themes: deeper AI integration, more immersive video, and a tighter ecosystem across all their devices.
