Apple’s iPhone Ultra could one-up the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with a bigger battery

Apple’s foldable iPhone is getting closer to its September announcement. Despite rumors of a delay, a recent report claimed that Foxconn is hiring temporary workers to ramp up production of the Ultra. Now we have a number for one of its most important specs: the battery.

I’ll be honest: when I saw the battery figure, my reaction was somewhere between “that works” and “I was hoping for more.”

So what exactly does the battery leak tell us?

Leaker Digital Chat Station shared a Weibo post citing a regulatory filing from Apple’s battery supplier listing two cell capacities: 1,921mAh and 2,962mAh. First, that confirms the iPhone Ultra could adopt a dual-cell design. Second, the combined battery capacity could be around 4,883mAh.

A two-cell configuration is standard practice in foldable phones. It helps accommodate the hinge mechanism running through the chassis. Samsung does the same with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Google does it with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, so there’s nothing unusual there.

For context on the full iPhone 18 lineup, the same source puts the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 5,567mAh (eSIM) and the iPhone 18 Pro at 4,288mAh. What’s unusual, however, is that the flagship foldable has less capacity than the standard flagship slab (via 9to5Mac).

How does the iPhone Ultra’s battery compare to its foldable rivals?

It sits right in the middle of the pack. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 comes in at 4,400mAh, and I can’t believe that I’m seeing this, but Apple’s iPhone Ultra could beat it comfortably. Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a 5,015mAh battery, though, meaning the iPhone Ultra trails it by about 132mAh.

That gap matters less than it appears on paper, primarily because Apple’s hardware-software integration typically yields more real-world usage per milliamp-hour than Android alternatives. However, the Razr Fold could still reign superior, thanks to its 6,000 mAh battery.

Even so, a foldable drives two displays, and battery anxiety on an expensive flagship is the last thing Apple can afford. For those catching up, the iPhone Ultra is expected to cost between ₹2,000 and ₹2,500 for the baseline variant. Anything that doesn’t go well could put Apple in a pickle.
