Audio-Technica’s new wireless StreamSet headset promises studio sound without the cables

I’ve lost count of wireless headsets that sound great until the microphone switches on. That is exactly why a cord-free streaming headset from a studio-audio brand earns my attention (with a pinch of skepticism). Audio-Technica wants to change my mind, and I am all up for it.

The company has announced the “ATH-M50xSTS-WL,” its first wireless headset in the StreamSet line. What’s unique, however, is how the brand has combined the studio sound of its ATH-M50x monitor headphones with microphone tech from its 20 Series studio mics (via Audio-Technica).

How does the wireless StreamSet keep audio and your voice clean?

The headset connects over a 2.4 GHz radio link via an included USB dongle you can plug into PCs and compatible consoles, and you can use the headset within 33 feet of the source device. Because Bluetooth transmission can add lag, the radio link reduces latency and resists interference.

And now, for the interesting bit. Your voice goes through a cardioid condenser microphone, a form of uni-directional microphone that mostly hears what’s in front of it (so room noise fades), on a boom arm that you can flip up to mute.

Adaptive noise reduction, with two adjustable levels, favors your voice over air drafts from fans or air conditioners. Meanwhile, sidetone lets you hear yourself, which, in my experience, should stop you from shouting into the mic and scaring your teammates.

Audio Technica wired headset with dongle.

Is it comfortable enough for long streams, and what does it cost?

The sound comes from the same 45 mm drivers as the ATH-M50x. You get two sets of earpads: standard ones that prioritize sound quality and isolation, and breathable mesh ones for longer sessions.

Battery life lasts up to 24 hours, and the included USB cable lets you keep playing while it charges. You can also switch to wired audio. If it isn’t clear by now, the headset is specifically designed for streamers and gamers; those who take sound and voice quality seriously.

It’s been available since October 28, 2026, for $299 in the US. While that sounds like a lot of money for a handset, and it probably is for most people, buyers are paying for studio-style audio and a proper mic.
