Despite delivering some solid performance the UAE trio fell short of stamping their ticket for golf’s third Major at Pinehurst By Nick Tarratt Khaleej Times Guest Golf Writer The final qualifying rounds for the US Open, often referred to as ‘Golf’s Longest Day’ with 36 holes being played on a single day, took place this week and resulted in mixed luck for the aspirants. As many as 687 players competed for the final 44 available spots at 10 USGA qualifiers. In total 10,052 golfers attempted to qualify. Of the 44 golfers who made it, 22 of them are fully exempt…
It’s advice that you’ve probably heard before: Even with one of the best TVs around today, you need a soundbar (or other sound system) to accompany it. On May 17 this year, an incident occurred 2,600 km off the Indian coast. The Indian Navy located the position of a Malta-flagged Bulk Carrier MV Ruen that had been captured by Somali pirates who were demanding $60million for its release. The Indian warship Kolkata confirmed the presence of pirates aboard using a drone, after which a batch of Indian Navy’s elite commandos were air-dropped onto Ruen. The Indian commandos quickly rescued the crew and apprehended the 35 pirates. While the hijacking of the Ruen by Somali pirates was their first successful attack on commercial shipping tankers since 2017, it…

World number one Novak Djokovic’s disappointing season continued on Tuesday when the defending French Open champion was forced to pull out of the Grand Slam before his quarterfinal with a knee injury that could threaten his Wimbledon and Olympic chances. India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party conceded defeat on Tuesday in a constituency where the inauguration of a grand Hindu temple just months ago by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen as an event that would cement his legacy and the party’s poll victory. The BJP looks set for heavy losses in the bellwether northern state of Uttar Pradesh, as the opposition Samajwadi Party and Congress race ahead in more than half of its 80 seats, including in Ayodhya city in the Faizabad constituency where Modi inaugurated the temple in January. The opening of the temple dedicated to a Hindy deity,…
Elation over record passenger figures is tinged with frustration at the airline trade body’s annual meeting as carriers lament years-long delays to deliveries of new Boeing aircraft. Headline projections of nearly five billion passengers and close to $1 trillion in revenues this year, both records, were reasons for celebration at the IATA annual general meeting in Dubai. But the figures would have been stronger without the problems facing Boeing, one of the two major aircraft suppliers along with Airbus, whose safety and manufacturing standards are under the spotlight. “It is suppressing growth at the moment, without question,” said International Air…
I am now off to Houston, Texas for this week’s LIV Golf event after which I plan to stay on in the US for the third Major of the year, next week’s US Open at Pinehurst. I was with Danny Willett at the European Open last week. Danny narrowly missed the cut – however, we both saw signs that he was on his way back to the ‘old’ Danny. He just believes he needs some more time and to play in more tournaments, apparently ‘more reps’ is the modern saying. I also had a look at the game of Guido…
