“Cricket? Erm, is it a team game?” asked the slightly puzzled Uber driver taking his passenger towards the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Texas on Saturday. Had the driver been one of the curious American-born spectators who ventured inside the venue and witnessed the USA’s first ever T20 World Cup game — a pulsating seven-wicket victory over Canada — he would have had the answer. Yes, team game it is, but in the shortest form it is also one that can be largely won by the brilliance of an individual. For the USA’s maiden victory, in front of a passionate…
Asus made a splash in the portable gaming PC market with the ROG Ally. Although not without flaws, the console presented an alternative to Valve’s Steam Deck for those who wanted something more powerful and didn’t mind the extra expense. It’s no wonder that Asus chose to follow up on its success a mere year later, introducing the ROG Ally X at Computex 2024. The Asus ROG Ally X is a strong contender in a match against some of the best gaming handhelds, including Asus’ own last-gen version with the Z1 Extreme chip. It brings some improvements, but it’s not…

Donald Trump has suggested that sending him to prison could prove a “breaking point” for his supporters – a warning that will fuel concerns of political violence around the US presidential election on November 5. In an interview aired Sunday on Fox News, the former president and current Republican White House hopeful acknowledged the possibility of jail time or house arrest following his historic criminal conviction in a hush money trial. “I’m ok with it,” Trump said, but added he was “not sure the public would stand for it.” “I think it would be tough for the public to take.…
It’s been a banner year for the major US stock indexes, but one economically sensitive corner of the market sticks out as a sore spot. The Dow Jones Transportation Average has fallen about 5 per cent so far this year, a significant contrast with the 9 per cent year-to-date rise for the benchmark S&P 500 and the 1 per cent rise in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which topped 40,000 points for the first time this month. While major indexes including the S&P 500, the Nasdaq Composite and the Dow have all set new all-time highs this year, the Dow…

The Indian Ocean nation of the Maldives will ban Israelis from the luxury tourist hot spot, the office of the president said Sunday, announcing a national rally in “solidarity with Palestine”. The Maldives, a tiny Islamic republic of more than 1,000 strategically located coral islets, is known for its secluded sandy white beaches, shallow turquoise lagoons and Robinson Crusoe-style getaways. President Mohamed Muizzu has “resolved to impose a ban on Israeli passports,” a spokesman for his office said in a statement, without giving details of when the new law would take effect. The Opec+ group of oil-producing nations agreed on Sunday to allow the UAE to increase its production target by 300,000 bpd for next year, a statement said. The UAE had pledged to make additional voluntary output cuts at the request of Saudi Arabia, which wanted to share the burden of cuts in an effort to support prices. The country’s output quota would be 3.519 million barrels per day in 2025, Opec said. During its meeting in Vienna, Opec+ also agreed to extend production cuts in a bid to support prices, as economic and geopolitical uncertainty looms over the market. The…
Borussia Dortmund paid the ultimate price for failing to take their chances against an incredible Real Madrid side, the Bundesliga club’s coach Edin Terzic said after the Spanish team’s 2-0 triumph in Saturday’s Champions League final. After Dortmund wasted several good opportunities in a one-sided first half, Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr. struck late to secure Real’s 15th European crown. “We didn’t show the efficiency to score,” a visibly downcast Terzic told reporters. “This is something we have to learn from.” Dortmund, who finished fifth in the Bundesliga this season, reached their first Champions League final since 2013 when Wembley…
When Microsoft announced Copilot+ PCs a few weeks back, one question reigned supreme: Why can’t I just run these AI applications on my GPU? At Computex 2024, Nvidia finally provided an answer. Nvidia and Microsoft are working together on an Application Programming Interface (API) that will allow developers to run their AI-accelerated apps on RTX graphics cards. This includes the various Small Language Models (SLMs) that are part of the Copilot runtime, which are used as the basis for features like Recall and Live Captions. With the toolkit, developers can allow apps to run locally on your GPU instead of…
