The 24K variant of the yellow metal was trading at Dh284.75 per gram on Tuesday morning, slightly down from Dh285.0 per gram at the close of the markets on Monday. Operators in the UAE cannot receive applications or requests for Haj or Umrah without prior approval from the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, it was announced Monday. This came as the authority announced hefty fines for misusing pilgrimage services. Individuals, campaign organisers, and offices will be fined up to Dh50,000 for violating the law. An Egyptian man has sued a female driver, who caused a five-car pile-up, for Dh1 million in compensation, after the accident caused him a permanent disability. The man, who works as a manager, lodged his civil compensation claim before the Sharjah Civil Court, seeking compensation against his medical, physical, financial and mental damages. Last week, the Sharjah Traffic Court convicted the Emirati woman of reckless and inattentive driving and causing an accident. A hacker group has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack that targeted auction house Christie’s earlier this month, the New York Times reported on Monday.
