Gold prices continued their upward trend at the opening of the markets in UAE on Thursday, jumping Dh4 per gram in the past 24 hours. The 24K variant of the yellow metal jumped Dh0.75 per gram to Dh289.5 at 9 am UAE time as against Dh288.75 at the close of the markets on Wednesday. Similarly, the other variants were also trading higher in early trade. According to Dubai Jewellery Group data, 22K, 21K and 18K were trading at Dh268.25, Dh259.5 and Dh222.5 per gram, respectively. Netflix’s ad-supported tier, which launched in 2022, is proving a big hit with subscribers. The streaming giant revealed on Wednesday that its ad tier has grown to 40 million monthly users globally, which is a significant chunk of its 270 million members. The Indian rupee opened higher on Thursday after weak US retail sales and cooling US inflation made it more likely that the Federal Reserve will cut rates later this year. The South Asian currency was trading at 83.44 against the US dollar (22.735 against the UAE dirham) around 8am, up from 83.50 (22.75) in the previous session. The UAE’s residential market thrived in the first quarter of 2024 with prices, transaction volumes and rents keeping an upward trajectory as strong demand continued to drive performance. Developers in Dubai on Wednesday said that they have very stringent anti-money laundering and combating financing of terrorism (AMLCFT) measures in place for the investors buying property in the emirate to ensure that no illegal money flows into their projects.
