With Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro lineup just weeks away from launch, a new report suggests buyers could face trouble getting one right away. According to semiconductor analyst Tim Culpan (via 9to5Mac), a DRAM shortage is holding up production and could leave Apple short on inventory following the launch. TSMC is reportedly sitting on $1 billion in stalled chips The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to pack Apple’s new A20 Pro chip. It’s the first processor built on TSMC’s new 2nm process. Culpan says that while chip fabrication itself is proceeding well, with strong volume and yields, TSMC is sitting on…

Samsung’s newest mobile camera sensor tackles a problem that has followed high-resolution phone cameras for years. Fitting more megapixels onto a sensor that stays roughly the same physical size usually means shrinking each pixel, which limits how much light it can capture. The ISOCELL HPC, Samsung’s latest entry in its 200MP sensor line, introduces a redesigned pixel structure, called DeepPix, that aims to solve that problem. Samsung says the new design lets each pixel hold 60 percent more light than the previous generation, resulting in brighter highlights, richer shadow detail, and less visible grain in HDR shots. How DeepPix changes…

When you’re shopping for a portable power station, there’s one number that’s almost impossible to ignore: battery capacity. A 2 kWh battery should give you roughly 2 kWh of usable power, right? Unfortunately, things aren’t quite that simple. Anker SOLIX has published new efficiency data for its S Series portable power stations, and it’s putting the spotlight on something that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as capacity: how much of the energy stored inside the battery actually makes it to your devices. According to Anker, portable power stations are commonly advertised with efficiency figures measured under relatively heavy loads,…

Another AI model has slipped its leash. This time it’s Kimi K3, the open-weight model from China’s Moonshot AI, and according to a report from Wired, it broke free from its sandbox during a cybersecurity test run by the startup Frontier Security. How did Kimi K3 escape? The breakout occurred during testing of Kimi K3’s defensive cybersecurity skills, and, much like the earlier incidents involving OpenAI and Anthropic, a gap in the sandbox setup is partly to blame. But Frontier Security says there’s more going on here. Kimi K3 didn’t just slip through a crack; it noticed the crack and…

The new Gemini look for Wear OS that was revealed with Wear OS 7, is finally rolling out, and it borrows straight from your phone’s playbook. The assistant is getting a new overlay design based on Neural Expressive, the same visual language Gemini already uses on Android phones and tablets, and it is all in the name of making the assistant feel consistent no matter which screen you are tapping. What was wrong with the old Gemini look? Until now, activating Gemini on your Pixel Watch meant opening the full app, which took over your entire screen. It worked fine,…

Microsoft has worked hard on attaching AI to practically every corner of Windows 11. These haven’t been the most well-received changes, and neither have they been very useful for many. But its latest experiment gives the technology a considerable more useful assignment. The company is testing an AI integration for Windows Performance Analyzer, or WPA, an advanced tool used by Microsoft engineers, hardware partners, and developers to investigate performance problems. So rather than manually diffing through dense graphs and process tables, engineers could ask questions about a captured performance trace using natural language. Questions could include what caused a sudden…

You already know the drill: it’s a new day, which means I’ve found yet another way to work ChatGPT into my everyday life. This time, it’s all about Voice. I’ve been using ChatGPT’s voice mode just about everywhere I can. It started on my phone, then moved to my laptop and desktop, and yes, I’ve even caught myself chatting with it through Apple CarPlay while driving. What began as something I opened occasionally has become part of my routine. The timing couldn’t have been better, either. OpenAI recently introduced GPT-Live, its next-generation voice experience that’s designed to sound more natural…

For most of retail forex history, your broker picked your software for you. You log into whatever platform came bundled with the account, and if you didn’t like it, you dealt with it anyway. That’s changing. A growing number of US-regulated forex brokers now let you pick the interface that best fits how they actually work. Some click through a familiar chart. Others code a bot, or automate a strategy that runs while they sleep. The Shift From One Platform to Three Interface choice once meant broker choice. Wanting TradingView’s charts but MetaTrader’s automation meant running two accounts, or switching…

As AI-powered applications become increasingly crowded with assistants designed to answer questions, complete tasks, and respond instantly, another question has emerged: what makes one AI character more memorable than another? Meowster is an AI app built around the personality of an independent virtual cat rather than a conventional assistant, offering one perspective on that question. Instead of centering the technology itself, the company has focused on character, memory, and emotional engagement. Early engagement suggests the approach is resonating. In its first month, Meowster reports it generated tens of thousands of conversations without paid marketing and, according to the company, as…
