In line with the directives from the UAE’s Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) — a federal body set up in September, Emirates Draw and Mahzooz, two popular raffle draws have put their operations on hold from January 1, 2024. Well, that was a good week for the start of my 2024 year. I shot a final round of 68, three under par to finish on 11 under par and in 10th place in the $2.5 million Dubai Invitational at Dubai Creek Resort. I have been in 10th place since Friday night. It feels like I have been there even longer. I did not make any moves at all up the leaderboard over the weekend – but equally, I did not move down. In this quality field, I will take confidence from this statistic. It is still very early in…

Now 100 days old, the latest Israel-Hamas war is by far the longest, bloodiest, and most destructive conflict between the bitter enemies. The fighting erupted on October 7 when Hamas carried out a deadly attack in southern Israel. Since then, Israel has relentlessly pounded the Gaza Strip with airstrikes and a ground offensive that have wrought unprecedented destruction, flattening entire neighborhoods. The offensive has displaced the vast majority of Palestinians in Gaza, shuttered operations in more than half of Gaza’s hospitals and caused widespread hunger, U. monitors say. The Israeli military says it has now scaled back operations in the…
A moment of silence was observed and then shouts of “free Palestine” rang out ahead of the Asian Cup game between Iran and the Palestinian soccer team on Sunday. As the Israel-Hamas war reached the 100-day mark both teams lined up in the centre of the field at Education City Stadium and an announcement asked for silence “in memory of the lives tragically lost as a result of the ongoing conflict in Palestine.” A hush fell across the stadium in the city of Al-Rayyan in Qatar before the pro-Palestinian chants could be heard coming from members of the crowd. Earlier,…
Sometimes, you get everything you’ve wanted. We probably won’t see much innovation from gaming monitors over the next couple of years. We’re on the heels of CES 2024, and we saw some exciting gaming monitor announcements — the first 4K QD-OLED displays, a 480Hz OLED monitor, and even some experimentation with glasses-free 3D. After several years of innovation only applying to the most expensive of expensive gaming monitors, displays are finally providing a leap forward for gamers. Gaming monitors have hit a new mountaintop peak — time to enjoy the view and imagine the possibilities of what comes next. The…

A recent rally that has boosted nearly every corner of the US stock market has left energy shares behind, and bullish investors are betting upcoming earnings reports and rising geopolitical tensions could spark a rebound for the struggling group. The energy sector has slumped nearly three per cent since late October, a period during which the S&P 500 has surged 16 per cent. The benchmark index rose 24 per cent for all of 2023, while energy fell 4.8 per cent, the second-largest drop last year among S&P 500 sectors. The sector’s struggles have continued even as other economically sensitive groups…
The UAE got off to flying start at the AFC Asian Cup with a 3-1 victory over Hong Kong in their opening match in Qatar on Sunday. This was Hong Kong’s first Asian Cup match in over 55 years. Two of the UAE’s goals came from VAR-ruled penalties, while a late Hong Kong goal was chalked off after the referee checked the screen. Coach Jorn Andersen warned his players before the game that the “gap is very big” between themselves and the continent’s footballing elite. But there was no yawning gulf in class as the tournament’s lowest-ranked side kicked off…
