Owners of Apple’s new Vision Pro headset are advised to make a strong mental note of the passcode they create for their new device. Why? Because if they forget it, it appears that the only way to start using it again is by taking the Vision Pro to an Apple retail store to get it reset. Or by shipping it to AppleCare customer support. The same palaver may also be necessary if a bug freezes the device and you can’t get it to function again. The surprising news comes courtesy of Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who said on Monday that…
Many parents in the UAE are increasingly opting for online tutorials from other countries, finding virtual classes to be a cost-effective alternative. Parents say that one-on-one in-person tutorials for children can often be more costly, requiring them to spend thousands of dirhams when opting for classes at local tutorial centres or with private instructors – especially if they have two or more children. With online classes, students do their learning at a mutually agreed time with the tutor, with private tutoring serving as a supplementary academic support system. Last December, the UAE launched a private tutor permit for those offering…
Tecno, a brand that mostly makes waves in the East while living under the budget shadows, is once again ready to make an innovation splash. At Mobile World Congress 2024, the company has lined up some rather promising announcements, and among them is a fresh take on the idea of rollable screen phones. So far, Samsung has only shown working rollable screen concepts, while Motorola and Oppo’s respective phones with a rollable screen never made it past the demo stage. Tecno wants to give it a try as well, and will be unveiling the Phantom Ultimate smartphone featuring rollable screen…
A taxi platform that utilises an auction-based pricing model has been licensed to operate in Dubai. This model removes the commission process, which contributes to “lower prices for riders and higher incomes for drivers”. Drife, which is touted to be the UAE’s first decentralised ride hailing platform, gives users the option to choose their fares from multiple drivers. For any given ride, a minimum fare is set which is typically 30 per cent higher than standard fares as per Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) regulations. Drivers have the option to offer discounts, maintain the ride’s standard fare, or request a…
NASA’s Mars rover, Perseverance, has captured an image (above) showing the final resting place of the damaged Mars helicopter, Ingenuity. Perseverance took the picture on February 4, nearly two weeks after NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) confirmed that Ingenuity had completed its 72nd and final flight on the red planet. During that flight on January 18, Ingenuity suffered irreparable damage to a rotor blade, leaving the 4-pound- 19-inch-tall aircraft grounded for good. In the image captured by Perseverance, we can see Ingenuity in the far distance, alone on a dune, while in the foreground a variety of rocks dot the…

Yemen’s internationally-recognised government named foreign minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak as the new prime minister on Monday in a surprise appointment that analysts say will likely anger the country’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Bin Mubarak replaces Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed at a time of rising tensions in the Arabian Peninsula’s poorest country following a spate of Red Sea attacks by Houthi rebels which have prompted retaliatory strikes by the Unites States and Britain. A decree issued by Yemen’s presidential council and carried by the official Saba news agency announced bin Mubarak’s appointment as premier and assigned the outgoing prime minister to the…
