The World Bank on Tuesday increased the UAE’s growth forecast for 2024 and 2025 on the back of a stronger rebound in oil activity and export growth. According to the World Bank’s latest Global Economic Prospects, the UAE economy is projected to grow 3.7 per cent and 3.8 per cent in 2024 and 2025, respectively. This is 0.3 per cent 0.4 per cent higher than its earlier forecast released in June 2023. In December, the UAE Central Bank increased the 2024 growth forecast for the country’s economy from 4.3 per cent to 5.7 due to higher oil production. The global…
There are many important aspects to being a successful club manager, but David Taggart aims to use the work ethic that he successfully employed in his previous role at the Dubai Creek Resort to drive the iconic club onwards and upward into the future. “As a Course Superintendent and greens keeper you always aspire to set very high standards,” Taggert told Khaleej Times ahead of the $2.5m Dubai Invitational, the first DP World Tour event of 2024 which tees off on Thursday “When you come from an agronomy background and you are used to working very long hours and setting…

CES typically isn’t a big show for mobile, but CES 2024 has been a strange exception to that rule. From the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro to futuristic foldable concepts from Samsung, there’s been a lot of exciting mobile tech to look at. That also includes Clicks — a new accessory that essentially transforms your iPhone into a BlackBerry. The Clicks Creator Keyboard was announced on January 4, and at CES 2024, I had an opportunity to go hands-on with the keyboard case to see what it’s really like. And now that I’ve used it, I think it’s one of…
Lured by a favourable regulatory landscape, an increasing number of Indian crypto companies are relocating to Dubai in an attempt to evade the high tax regime in their home country. Crypto analysts see the exodus as a reaction to the stringent tax rules and ambiguous legal guidelines for digital currencies in India. In June 2022, the government introduced a 30 per cent tax on cryptocurrency trading profits and one per cent tax on transactions exceeding Rs10,000. Juxtaposed with the harsh crypto ecosystem, low taxes, ease of business establishment, and dedicated regulatory framework for digital assets make the UAE, Middle East’s…

In the same announcement made on Tuesday, NASA chief Bill Nelson said that the first crewed landing, originally planned for 2025 as part of Artemis III, will now launch in September 2026 at the earliest. “As we remind everybody at every turn, safety is our top priority,” Nelson told reporters during a teleconference on Tuesday. “To give Artemis teams more time to work through the challenges…
Meta on Tuesday said it was tightening up content restrictions for teens on Instagram and Facebook as it faces increased scrutiny that its platforms are harmful for young people. The changes come months after dozens of US states accused Meta of damaging the mental health of children and teens, and misleading users about the safety of its platforms. In a blog post, the company run by Mark Zuckerberg said it will now “restrict teens from seeing certain types of content across Facebook and Instagram even if it’s from friends or people they follow.” This type of content would include content…

You’ll be forgiven if you’re not aware of a thing called NextGen TV. (And even more so if you’re not aware that it’s also part of a broadcast TV standard called ATSC 3.0.) You’re less forgiven if you haven’t yet installed an over-the-air antenna in your home, because that’s very much something we think you should do in 2024. And now you’ll have a little more impetus care about both of those things, as a company called Roxi (they spell it ROXi) has partnered with broadcast giant Sinclair to bring music (and music video) channels to ATSC 3.0-capable televisions. Roxi…
