A mercurial Indian Women’s team will be keen to produce another all-round show as they look to seal the three-match series against Australia in the second T20I in Mumbai on Sunday. Putting behind the disappointment of a 0-3 hammering in the ODIs — marred by poor efforts in all areas — India Women came out firing on all cylinders in the first T20 to thrash Australia by a huge nine-wicket margin for the first time in history. Criticised for being sloppy in the ODIs, India were spectacularly athletic in the field on Friday, while the bowlers led by young Titas…
It’s early January. You know what that means, don’t you? We’re curing hangovers from New Year’s Eve parties, committing to a new set of resolutions, and trying to remember how to work after multiple long weekends. For folks in the tech space, it also means that it’s time for the Consumer Electronics Show — better known as CES. CES 2024 is right around the corner, and after covering the event remotely for the past few years, I’m finally going back to cover it in-person — my first time doing so since CES 2017. To tackle a busy week of press…
In November 2023, a ray of hope shone on Noorhan Jameel Abed’s life. Noorhan was one of 1,000 cancer patients flown out to the UAE from Gaza for treatment. Diagnosed with leukemia for two and a half years, her treatment in Gaza had been precarious and constantly threatened by the escalating crisis. Noorhan was among the first group of Palestinian cancer patients who arrived in the country for treatment, in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to provide medical treatment for 1,000 wounded children and 1,000 cancer patients from…
Home is where the haunt is, although we can’t remember the last time that anyone had a haunted swimming pool like the one in Night Swim. The new horror thriller by writer and director Bryce McGuire stars Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon as Ray and Eve Waller, with Amélie Hoeferle and Gavin Warren as their children, Izzy and Elliot Waller. Apparently, the Waller’s new home is a real fixer-upper, at least in the supernatural department. But they may want to stay out of the water if their pool really does have a ghost in it. While there aren’t a lot…
If you were down by Kite Beach on Saturday morning, you may have heard a group chanting: “Make karak Dh1 again!”. Adam Eddine, a 19-year-old Dubai resident, did not expect to go viral when he took to Instagram to announce a 24km run to advocate for a drop in the price of the beloved beverage, which typically sells for Dh1.5 or Dh2 in the UAE. But a WhatsApp group formed for the cause quickly garnered over 300 members. Even the original video gained over 348,000 views along with thousands of likes and comments. Watch it here: What started off as…
Rafael Nadal has concerns over his surgically repaired left hip just three matches into his comeback from a year-long injury layoff, and just over a week before the Australian Open. The 22-time major winner needed a medical timeout in the third set of his Brisbane International quarterfinal loss to Jordan Thompson on Friday after failing to convert three match points in the second. He miscued an overhead backhand on his first match point in the 10th game of the second set, about two hours into the contest. He then missed consecutive forehands from 6-4 in the tiebreaker before No. 55-ranked…
It was mid-December, and I’d just finished my final assignment of 2023. A hectic year full of exciting games capped off with yet another monumental achievement for the medium, the Meta Quest exclusive Asgard’s Wrath 2. No longer locked into playing a never-ending stream of zeitgeist games that I had to keep up with for work, I was finally free to play whatever I wanted. There was only one problem: The thought of playing a game made me sick. It turns out that playing well over 100 new releases in any given year is a straight path to burnout. Who…
Tonnes of life-saving aid are being sent to Gaza but are not getting to the intended recipients. Khaleej Times recently spotted thousands of humanitarian relief trucks – with the Pakistani, Indonesian and Egyptian flags – from Al Arish up to the Rafah border. Trucks from UNICEF, Red Cross and World Health Organisation are stranded at the border. Rafah remains the sole crossing point to Palestine. Speaking to Khaleej Times, MKR, an Egyptian resident in Rafah City, said: “The UAE’s warehouse, alongside UNRWA’s (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East), are the only ones in Rafah.…
