Long gone is the Joe Biden of February 2023, strolling confidently through the streets of Kyiv, basking in the role as champion of the Ukrainian cause in the fight against Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Nearly one year after that triumphant appearance, the US president is instead facing the harsh realities of running for re-election while bogged down in one stagnant war and navigating the volatility of another, as the conflict in Gaza threatens at any moment to ignite the entire Middle East. In fact, Israel’s war with Hamas has already boiled over into the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden as…
Fazal Manekia is many things to many people. A success story to the Indian business community in the UAE. A doting father to his daughter. A son who has lived up to his parents’ idea of the art of giving. But to his employees, he is the closest thing to a nurturer they can find in the city. The chairman and managing director of the Merint Group is known for sharing his annual profits with every member of his staff. But this year, he did something that left them in tears. He documented in his will that each and every…
Who would have thought that Super Saturday, the traditional dress rehearsal for the Dubai World Cup meeting and one of the highlights of the prestigious Carnival, would ever be rivalled or surpassed? With prize money in excess…
We’re almost a month into 2024, and it’s anyone’s guess as to what’s the best streaming service out there right now. If you think it’s Netflix or Prime Video, think again; it might just be Peacock. February’s programming schedule is filled with intriguing content across a wide variety of genres for Peacock‘s paid subscribers to enjoy all month long (and in some cases, even longer than that). The highlights for Peacock this month include new episodes of January’s hit shows Ted and In the Know, more reality TV drama with The Traitors, a new documentary about the influential rap group…

The crackdown launched by the Pakistani military against illegal currency players to control the smuggling of the dollar has almost removed the black market rates, a US think-tank said. “A strong military crackdown on illegal currency markets that began in September has virtually eliminated the black-market rate, supporting capital inflows and remittances. Lastly, the passage of the state-owned enterprises (SOE) law should enable Pakistan to privatise troubled SOE’s, reducing fiscal expenditure while also providing another avenue for financing,” Garbis Iradian, chief economist for Mena and Central Asia, Institute of International Finance (IIF), said in a note. The South Asian currency…
The City of Gold is a moniker for Dubai that any Tom, Dick and Harry in the world would know. Do-buy in Dubai is another tagline the Emirates airline and other merchants flaunted on their shopping bags once upon a time. Gold has since lost its sheen as a magnet for visitors to Dubai, the emirate having set itself on the path of diversification from oil and trade to a knowledge-based economy. It’s now a regional and international hub for anything that fattens its GDP — from talent pool, education, space, to services, aviation and health tourism. YouTubers to content…
