As the New Year begins, so does the countdown on Kylian Mbappe’s future. It promises to be a nervous start to 2024 for Paris Saint-Germain and their fans with speculation set to intensify about their prolific striker, one of only two players in history to score a hat trick in a World Cup final. Mbappe began this season in a transfer standoff with his club after not taking up the option of a 12-month extension into 2025. It means that, starting January 1, he can openly talk to other clubs or even sign a pre-contract agreement with long-time suitor Real…
Over the past few years, Apple has been leaning more into pushing the pricey “Pro” iPhones as a creative person’s best friend. Some of the marketing claims don’t sound that outlandish. For example, Cinematic Mode really blew my mind, as long as I had stable hands or a gimbal at my disposal. With the iPhone 15 Pro pair, Apple introduced the ability to capture videos in Log format. Log takes a mathematical approach to video capture and editing. But to draw a rough parallel, Log capture is to video what RAW format is to a photo. The end goal is…

In Ferrari, releasing on January 4 in the UAE, Adam Driver looms like a colossus as Enzo Ferrari. Driver is tall and rangy, but he looks even bigger here — wider, too — partly because Enzo wears boxy suits with linebacker shoulders so broad they nearly scrape the edges of the frame. The most famous man in Italy aside from the Pope, Enzo makes blood-red race cars with sexy curves and supercharged engines. The Commendatore, as he’s called, looks more like a tank. He seems an ideal vehicle for Michael Mann, a filmmaker with his own line of beautiful obsessions.…
Two-time Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova started the new year by announcing she is expecting her first child. “On the first day of 2024 I wanted to wish you a happy new year and share the exciting news that Jiri and I will be welcoming a baby into our family this summer!” the Czech player wrote on social media. Kvitova married Jiri Vanek, her long-time coach, in July 2023. The 33-year-old Kvitova, currently ranked 17th, won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014. Kvitova was included on the Australian Open entry list when the tournament released it in early December. It was…
There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who use the built-in operating system on their TV to access their favorite movies and shows — and then there’s everyone else. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with the former. Many smart TVs come with Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or Google TV running the show, in which case you’re well-covered. And bespoke TV operating systems — like LG’s webOS, Samsung’s Tizen, or even Vizio’s Home Screen — have gotten better in recent years. But there’s still a reason to consider an external streaming device, be it a stick or a…
