Does my Kindle have wireless charging?

The 2024 Amazon Kindles have been announced, with many currently available or on their way to customers. If you’re considering buying a new Kindle, but are unsure which one to choose, it’s worth looking into which models offer wireless charging — and which don’t — if convenience is near the top of your list. Check out our list of the best e-readers to see what other options are available to you, but for now, here’s which Kindles have wireless charging.

Why buy a Kindle with wireless charging?

There are several reasons to that make it worth purchasing a Kindle that supports wireless charging, the main one of which is the sheer convenience it offers. With wireless charging, you won’t have to rummage through drawers or bags searching for a charging cable, and this ease of access contributes to a more streamlined experience, allowing you to focus on what matters most — enjoying your reading.

Wireless charging also significantly reduces wear and tear on the device. Traditional charging methods often involve repeated plugging and unplugging of cables, which can lead to frayed cords, damaged ports, and a shorter lifespan for the device. Simply placing your Kindle on a charging stand minimizes this physical interaction, promoting better longevity for the device and its accessories.

Another underrated benefit of wireless charging is the cleaner, more organized aesthetic it brings to your space. Without cumbersome cables hanging off your table or desk, your environment can appear more minimalist and tidy. This neat appearance enhances your surroundings and creates a more inviting atmosphere for reading or working.

Which Kindles support wireless charging?

Only three Kindles support wireless charging, with each requiring a Made by Amazon charging dock. These include the two most recent Kindle Paperwhite Signature Editions (2022 and 2024) and the new Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition.

The latest Kindle lineup includes an all-new traditional Kindle, regular Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Scribe. Of these, it’s probably surprising that the top-of-the-line Kindle Scribe doesn’t include wireless charging.

The most anticipated new Kindle is the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. As the name indicates, it is the first Kindle to feature a color-ink display. This innovation makes it an excellent choice for showcasing book covers, illustrations, and comics in full color, in addition to the usual black-and-white text. The Kindle Colorsoft closely resembles the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, as both devices offer the same storage capacity and display size, among other similarities.
