GHA-SCAI SHOCK MENA from 2-3 Feb 2024 in Dubai

GHA-SCAI SHOCK MENA: Region’s first cardiogenic shock event to raise awareness about the critical condition

Gulf Heart Association (GHA), the region’s professional cardiac care society with representation from 7 countries, has teamed up with the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI), the only professional medical society in the US dedicated solely to interventional cardiology, to bring to the region a first-of-its-kind conference on cardiogenic shock, GHA-SCAI SHOCK MENA.

GHA-SCAI SHOCK MENA will be held on 2nd and 3rd of February 2024 at Le Meridien Hotel and Conference Centre, Dubai, UAE. The two-day event will feature presentations, panel discussions, case studies, and workshops presented by distinguished cardiologists. They will discuss the condition of cardiogenic shock, and its presentation and management in the current era.

“Despite the advances in the management of acute cardiac conditions, cardiogenic shock represent a big challenge to cardiologists because of its high mortality,” said President of GHA, Dr Mohammad Zubaid, MB, ChB, FRCPC, FACC, FGHA. In his capacity as one of the leading medical researchers in MENA, he added, “We lack regional data about the incidence and management of this lethal condition. We plan to establish a regional registry focused on the care of these patients to understand the current landscape of cardiogenic shock and how we can improve these patients’ outcomes.”

GHA-SCAI SHOCK MENA will be a useful platform for interventional cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, and intensivists to meet, exchange ideas and collaborate in the management of cardiogenic shock. It will witness participation from across the region and will provide the industry with the opportunity to network with leaders in this field and showcase their products and achievements in this field.

“Cardiogenic shock initiatives and protocols established in the US have shown lower mortality rates than previously quoted mortality. Such initiatives focus on a multidisciplinary approach to shock with early recognition, escalation of mechanical circulatory support and management strategies,” said GHA-SCAI SHOCK-MENA course co-director Dr Rasha Al-Bawardy, MD, MSc, FACC, FSCAI, interventional cardiologist and assistant professor at the National Guard Health Affairs in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. “GHA-SCAI SHOCK MENA will be a meeting ground of worldwide expertise and is a great opportunity for local MENA healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge and skills with the goal to improve outcomes of shock patients in our region,” she added. “GHA-SCAI SHOCK MENA has a rich scientific program, and its workshops will provide you with a hands-on experience on mechanical circulatory support.”

Together, GHA and SCAI will help raise awareness about cardiogenic shock.

Talking about the upcoming event, Dr Babar Basir, Director, Acute Mechanical Circulatory Support at Henry Ford Health System, said, “I’m so excited to be joining the GHA-SCAI SHOCK conference in Dubai. I am excited to learn from the GHA faculty about how cardiogenic shock is being treated in the MENA region.”

Some of the topics featured on the agenda include landscape of shock from regional studies, trials in cardiogenic shock, the importance of building and participating in shock registries, and an overview of successful shock initiatives.
