How to turn on dark mode on Snapchat

A while back, Apple and Google introduced the option to switch iPhones and Android phones into light and dark modes. This feature is also accessible to third-party apps like Snapchat.

Dark mode is a great feature. Whether you want to more comfortably see your phone at night, not disturb people with it in a dark room, or you just prefer how it looks, there are plenty of reasons to love dark mode.

On Snapchat, just like many other apps, the background can be changed automatically based on the time of day or you can manually switch between light and dark modes. Here are the steps to do so on both iOS and Android.

How to turn on dark mode on Snapchat

Whether you’re on an iPhone 15, Samsung Galaxy S24, or any other smartphone, the steps to activate dark mode on Snapchat is the same.

Step 1: First, open the Snapchat app on your smartphone.

Step 2: Next, tap on your Bitmoji profile avatar in the top-left corner of the screen. This will allow you to access your Snapchat profile.

Step 3: On the profile screen, select the Settings icon at the top right.

Step 4: On the Settings page, scroll down, then select App Appearance under the My Account section.

Step 5: Finally, make your selection. You can select from four choices:

Match system: Your mode will match the one on your smartphone.

Always Light: Snapchat will always have a light background.

Always Dark: Snapchat will always have a dark background.

Custom: With a Snapchat Plus membership, you can select from custom app themes.

Does Snapchat have a dark mode for Android?

As shown above, you can enable dark mode on Snapchat using an Android device. This wasn’t always the case, but it changed in 2023. Now, the options are the same whether you’re using an iPhone or an Android device.
