HP’s EliteBook X G2 laptops put serious AI power in shockingly light designs

At CES 2026, HP has officially introduced its new EliteBook X G2 series, a premium business laptop lineup built for AI-based workflows. The lineup stands out from the others as it lets customers choose between their favorite processing platforms: AMD, Intel, or Qualcomm. Further, buyers can choose between the traditional notebook and a convertible form factor.

At the top of the lineup is the HP EliteBook X G2q, which offers either the Snapdragon X2 Plus or X2 Elite chip, with the latter offering up to 85 TOPS of neural processing power for handling on-device AI workloads. Besides, the laptop features a 14-inch 3K OLED screen with 120Hz VRR (optional), up to 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 2TB of PCIe storage.

Honored at CES 2026 for Innovation, the HP EliteBook X G2 Series is an Ultra-light, Quantum-secured, AI-Powered next-gen device.

Your next work laptop could be smarter, lighter, and convertible

Then there’s the EliteBook X G2i, which is based on the Intel Core Ultra 3 series that offers up to 50 TOPS of NPU performance. The laptop is configurable with a 14-inch 3K OLED screen at 120Hz VRR, 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 2TB of PCIe storage. However, its entry-level variants will weigh under 1 kilogram, making it one of the lighter business laptops.

The EliteBook X G2i is also available in a convertible avatar, dubbed the EliteBook X Flip G2i. While other specifications remain the same, the Flip version sports a detachable screen chassis that turns into a tablet when separated from the keyboard base. Even otherwise, you can use the device in laptop, tent, or stand modes.

Last but not least, there’s the EliteBook X G2a, which relies on the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 470 processor (up to 55 TOPS of NPU performance). Other specifications, such as screen size, technology, refresh rate, available memory, and storage, are similar to those of the other two EliteBook models we’ve discussed so far.

Out of the box, all models ship with Windows 11 Pro and all Copilot+ features. Further, they promise all-day battery life, which could be a primary concern for many buyers. The new series is a shift from the regular one-size-fits-all strategy for business laptops, and replaces it with a flexible, democratic lineup of AI-enabled machines tailored for different types of users.

While the Intel-powered EliteBook X G2i and the EliteBook X Flip G29 convertible are “expected” to be available in select configurations starting February 2026, the EliteBook G2a (AMD) and the flagship EliteBook G2q (Snapdragon) are “expected” to go on sale in spring. HP hasn’t revealed the pricing of the laptops yet.

Elsewhere, HP has also revealed the new Omnibook Ultra 14 and a new keyboard PC at the CES 2026.
