Former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi to Deliver Keynote as IBPC Dubai Marks India’s 80th Independence Day

Senior UAE dignitaries and leading India-UAE business and professional figures to join celebration of friendship, innovation and a shared future

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The Indian Business & Professional Council (IBPC Dubai) will mark India’s 80th Independence Day with a high-profile evening bringing together senior UAE dignitaries, prominent Indian political and business figures, entrepreneurs, professionals and members of the wider Indian community in the UAE.

Ms Meenakshi Lekhi, former Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture of India,

The celebration will take place on 15 August 2026 at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City from 5:30pm onwards, placing the enduring India-UAE relationship at the heart of an evening that brings together leadership, culture, technology, recognition and community.

Senior UAE dignitaries are expected to attend the celebration, underscoring the significance of the occasion and the UAE’s longstanding spirit of openness, tolerance and partnership towards its diverse communities.

The evening will also feature a keynote address by Ms Meenakshi Lekhi, former Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture of India, bringing a distinguished Indian perspective to the celebration and to the continuing evolution of India’s global engagement.

Reflecting the spirit of Young India and Digital Dubai, the celebration will also unveil a new era of innovation, technology and digital transformation through a symbolic departure from traditional ceremonial practices.

According to Dr Sahitya Chaturvedi, Secretary General, IBPC Dubai, the programme will feature an innovative digital lamp-lighting, with the ceremonial lamp inaugurated through a QR Code activation displayed on the LED screen, bringing together heritage and technology in a powerful, visually engaging experience.

The moment will celebrate India’s remarkable digital journey, Dubai’s leadership as a global smart and innovation hub, and the aspirations of a young, connected and future-ready generation. From the lamp of tradition to the light of digital innovation, the ceremony will mark the beginning of a new chapter – Young India, Digital Dubai, One Shared Future.

The evening will also feature a special musical presentation by Symphony Sargam, paying tribute to the legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle. The tribute carries particular resonance this year following her passing in April 2026, offering an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary cultural legacy of one of India’s most influential voices and her enduring contribution to Indian music.

The evening will culminate in recognitions celebrating individuals and contributions within the Indian community, followed by a gala dinner.

“For IBPC Dubai, the occasion goes beyond commemorating India’s Independence Day. It reflects the increasingly multifaceted relationship between India and the UAE, one built not only on trade and investment, but also on people-to-people connections, culture, professional networks, technology and shared aspirations. This year, we are particularly excited to bring the spirit of Young India and Digital Dubai into the celebration and to look towards a future shaped by innovation and possibility,” said Siddharth Balachandran, Chairman, IBPC Dubai.

The UAE is home to one of the world’s largest Indian expatriate communities, while Dubai continues to serve as an important gateway for Indian businesses, entrepreneurs and investors seeking opportunities across the Gulf, the Middle East and beyond.

Against this backdrop, IBPC Dubai’s Independence Day celebration brings together the different dimensions of the India-UAE relationship, including government, business, culture, technology and community, on a single platform.

The presence of senior UAE leadership alongside prominent Indian voices also reflects the depth of the bilateral relationship and the contribution of the Indian community to the UAE’s economic and social landscape.

“India’s Independence Day is an occasion of immense pride for Indians everywhere, but in the UAE, it also offers an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary friendship between two nations and the community that connects them. IBPC Dubai is proud to bring together leaders, businesses and professionals to celebrate this shared journey, embrace the energy of a new generation and look towards an even stronger, more connected future,” added Eugene Mayne, Founder and CEO of Tristar Group, who are the title sponsors of this year’s programme.
