The aT Center Dubai, representing the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, recently hosted an exciting live cooking competition, celebrating the rich and diverse flavors of Korean cuisine. This culinary event provided a platform for participants, ranging from Korean food enthusiasts to passionate home cooks, to showcase their culinary talents and creativity.

Using traditional Korean ingredients such as gochujang (red chili paste), ssamjang (spicy dipping sauce), and doenjang (fermented soybean paste), competitors were tasked with creating authentic and innovative dishes that reflected the depth and complexity of Korean flavors. The contest not only highlighted the versatility of these traditional Korean pastes but also encouraged participants to incorporate their own culinary influences, creating a fusion of flavors that resonated with the audience.

The event was supported by the Korean Cultural Center, which has been actively promoting Korean culture in the UAE and fostering cultural exchanges between the two nations. This collaboration further emphasized the growing popularity of Korean cuisine and culture in the region.

Contest Highlights

  • The competition began with preliminary rounds held in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where participants competed for a spot in the Grand Finals.
  • A total of five finalists from Dubai and six finalists from Abu Dhabi advanced to the Grand Finals.
  • The Grand Finals took place at Taon Korean Restaurant in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, October 22, 2024
  • The top three winners were awarded cash prizes for their outstanding culinary creations:
    • 1st Place: Roderick Hinampas
    • 2nd Place: Paolo Banaag
    • 3rd Place: Ruth D’Souza

The Korean Cuisine Contest was a true celebration of Korean food culture, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the art of Korean cooking. The event successfully showcased the growing appreciation for Korean flavors in the UAE and demonstrated the universal appeal of Korean gastronomy.
