A lot goes into making music before it reaches our ears. There are the instruments, recording equipment, production software, and sometimes an awful lot of experimenting before a song actually takes shape. Apple is bringing that entire process out of the recording studio to promote its new MacBook Pro, and it has enlisted British singer-songwriter Labrinth for a rather unusual musical experiment.
Labrinth, who has produced music for some of the biggest names in the industry, will spend an entire night at Apple’s Tower Theatre store in Los Angeles, creating a song from scratch using the new MacBook Pro and Logic Pro. The whole session will be broadcast live on YouTube, where fans can watch the musician work his magic, while also getting an opportunity to ask questions.
An overnight recording session with Labrinth
The event kicks off November 4 at 8 p.m. Pacific, and according to Apple, this is the first time an artist will spend the night at one of its retail stores to create music. The finished song will be released next week, though there is no word on what kind of music Labrinth has planned.
For those unfamiliar with Labrinth, he is the man behind songs like Jealous, Earthquake, and Beneath Your Beautiful, the last of which made me a fan back in 2012. He also composed the soundtrack for HBO’s Euphoria, including the Emmy-winning All for Us featuring Zendaya. Alongside Sia and Diplo, he is also part of the musical supergroup LSD. Fans can catch the entire recording session on Labrinth’s YouTube channel.
Apple’s new MacBook Pro takes the studio spotlight

As far as the hardware goes, Apple will be putting its latest MacBook Pro to work, which features a new touch-enabled ProLED XDR display using tandem OLED technology. The laptop goes on sale November 6.
