Motorola could be reviving the Moto One series with some serious hardware

Motorola has some rather ambitious hardware lined up with its upcoming Signature 27 flagship. A 12,000-nit Tandem OLED display, a 200-megapixel periscope camera, and plenty of other flagship-grade hardware. But it appears the company is also preparing another phone, and this one carries a name that hasn’t been seen in years.

A handset simply called the Moto One has surfaced in certification and benchmark databases. Going by the leaked details, Motorola could be giving its long-forgotten smartphone lineup a second shot, and the hardware is certainly looking promising.

An old name, new ambitions

Motorola introduced the One series back in 2018, initially promising a cleaner Android experience through Google’s Android One program. The lineup eventually expanded to include phones like the One Vision, One Action, and One Zoom, each experimenting with different hardware features. The branding eventually disappeared following the One 5G models.

As far as the upcoming Moto One is concerned, a Geekbench listing suggests Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM and Android 16. The handset reportedly scored 2,109 points in single-core and 8,586 in multi-core testing. While not exactly cutting-edge, those are some fairly capable internals.

Old design habits, new charging capabilities

The folks over at Notebookcheck also spotted the handset in the Wireless Power Consortium database, revealing Qi2 wireless charging support. Interestingly, the certification lists Extended Power Profile rather than Magnetic Power Profile. So, while the phone supports up to 15W wireless charging, magnetic accessories would likely require a compatible case.

As for the design, Motorola is apparently in no mood to experiment. The certification images show curved edges, a centered selfie camera cutout, and a familiar square camera island housing three lenses and an LED flash. Unfortunately, no further details are available yet, so we don’t know whether Motorola is trying another specialization concept with the upcoming Moto One or if this will be a generic premium mid-ranger.
