Mr. Ramachandran, a 65-year-old man, faced a significant setback in 2023 when multiple strokes left him paralyzed and reliant on others for even the most basic tasks. Ramachandran’s recovery was not without its challenges. He faced significant physical and emotional hurdles as he adapted to his new reality. However, with unwavering determination and expert care, he embarked on a remarkable journey towards recovery.

Ramachandran’s path to healing was arduous. Initially, he was lying in bed, unable to move or care of himself, but through consistent rehabilitation, he gradually regained strength.

Dr. Hussam Antwan Touma, specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Dr. Hussam Antwan Touma, specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and his dedicated multi-disciplinary team at NMC ProVita (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, clinical psychologist, dietician, and skilled rehab nurse) played a crucial role in Ramachandran’s recovery.

Dr. Hussam created a personalized Rehabilitation program, which included physical, occupational, and speech therapy, in addition to psychological approach with cognitive therapy and nursing care, all have had addressed his specific needs and helped him regain strength, mobility, communication skills, swallowing, optimize his nutrition and minimize the level of help needed to fulfill the activities of daily living.

The support from his family also provided a vital source of encouragement and motivation.

Ramachandran began to make steady progress. Overtime, he regained strength in his arms and legs, and was soon able to stand and walk short distances using a walker. With continued support from NMC ProVita team, he managed to climb stairs with mild assistance, which was a remarkable achievement considering where he started.

His communication skills began to progress with speech therapy, though he initially relied on hand gestures to express himself, he slowly began to use words again. His ability to follow simple instructions, cognition abilities and participation in conversations have also improved.

Today, Ramachandran is a testament to the power of human resilience. His journey from complete dependence to newfound function with mild help-supervision serves as an inspiration to all.

His story highlights the transformative impact of comprehensive care, multi-disciplinary rehabilitation approach and the unwavering spirit of individuals who refuse to be defined by their limitations.
