SLC Secretary General, on the Occasion of International Translation Day
29 September 2026 – International Translation Day is an annual occasion to commemorate the valuable contributions made by translators throughout history across the scientific, educational, and literary domains. It serves as an avenue to highlight their pivotal role in safeguarding cultural heritage, advancing and disseminating knowledge, fostering intercultural dialogue, as well as promoting diplomacy and collective efforts among nations.
Translation has unprecedented significance in today’s world. In addition to facilitating diplomatic efforts, negotiations, and regional and international partnerships, translators carry the responsibility of conveying information accurately, impartially and credibly amid rising digitisation and the blurring of geographical boundaries.
The scope of a translator’s role covers diverse domains, including the legal and legislative sphere, where they play an essential role in ensuring that the meaning of legal provisions and legislative texts is communicated accurately and effectively, in line with the legislator’s intent. This, in turn, promotes compliance and enables individuals, regardless of their language, to understand their rights and obligations.
On International Translation Day, we extend our sincere gratitude to the translators at the Supreme Legislation Committee in Dubai and worldwide, reaffirming our appreciation for their dedicated efforts. We wish them continued success as they carry forward this noble and impactful profession.
