Thailand’s approach to tourism is increasingly defined by conservation, community and long-term environmental care. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that Lanta Archipelago National Park in Krabi has been selected as one of Thailand’s featured destinations in the 2025 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories, highlighting the country’s growing influence in sustainable tourism development.

The recognition was announced during the Green Destinations Global Conference 2025 in Montpellier, France. Lanta Archipelago National Park was acknowledged for its community-led marine conservation efforts under the Krabi Prototype initiative. The project focuses on protecting coastal ecosystems through practical environmental action, encouraging local communities and visitors to participate in preserving marine biodiversity and reducing ecological impact.

The initiative reflects a broader shift in how destinations are engaging travellers, moving beyond sightseeing to meaningful participation. By involving local residents, park authorities and visitors in conservation efforts, the project strengthens environmental awareness while ensuring that tourism supports, rather than strains, natural resources.

In addition to Lanta Archipelago National Park, nine other Thai destinations were recognised among the Top 100 Stories. These include Royal Park Rajapruek in Chiang Mai, Kui Buri National Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Uthai Thani Old Town, Mu Ko Chang National Park in Trat, Tha Chai Community in Si Satchanalai, Chak Ngaew Ancient Chinese Market in Chon Buri, Chiang Khan in Loei, Nan Old Town and Na Kluea Old Town in Chon Buri. Together, they represent a diverse cross-section of Thailand’s landscapes, heritage sites and community-based tourism initiatives.

These destinations will be promoted through the international Green Destinations network, strengthening Thailand’s global profile as a country committed to responsible tourism practices. The recognition aligns with TAT’s wider sustainability strategy, which encourages tourism operators and communities to adopt environmentally responsible models that preserve cultural identity and support local livelihoods.

Thailand’s inclusion in the 2025 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories reinforces its position as a destination where environmental stewardship and visitor experience progress hand in hand, offering travellers opportunities to explore the country with purpose and awareness.
