The UAE’s premier offshore sailing race sets sail from DOSC on 8 February

8 February 2025, Dubai – The Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) is set to host the 32nd edition of the Aramex Dubai to Muscat Offshore Race, the longest offshore sailing race in the Gulf region, kicking off on 8 February.

This year’s edition is set to break records, with the highest number of entries to date, reflecting the UAE’s rising status as a global sailing powerhouse.

With up to 30 teams competing over 360+ nautical miles, this event highlights the accelerating mainstream adoption of sailing in the region. Historically rooted in the UAE’s rich maritime heritage, sailing is no longer a niche sport but a growing movement, with high-profile events like SailGP returning to Dubai for a third consecutive year. The UAE is proving itself as a world-class sailing destination, attracting international talent and raising a new generation of competitive sailors.

David Worrall, Dubai to Muscat Race Director, comments: “We’re thrilled to see this race continue to grow, serving as a true testament to the UAE’s expanding role in the global sailing arena. With a record number of entries this year, it’s clear that offshore sailing in the region is becoming increasingly vibrant and competitive. We wish all competing teams the best of luck as they take on this challenging journey.”

The details: A race of endurance, strategy, and skill

The Aramex Dubai to Muscat Race is a lofty test of endurance, skill, and strategy. Setting off from Jumeirah Beach, the teams will navigate the challenging Arabian Gulf waters, round the Musandam Peninsula, and finish at Marina Bandar Al Rowdha in Muscat, Oman. The race, recognised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), attracts a diverse mix of seasoned sailors and rising talent, featuring keelboats and multihulls ranging from 27 to 100 feet in length.

This year introduces a groundbreaking youth team, comprising of sailors under 20, with the exception of the skipper, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of offshore sailing talent.

Sailing’s evolution from heritage to high-performance sport in the UAE

For centuries, sailing has been part of the UAE’s cultural fabric. Today, it is evolving beyond tradition into a dynamic, competitive sport that is gaining mainstream recognition. DOSC now ranks as the 10th largest International Rating Certificate (IRC) fleet in the world, a testament to the region’s growing sailing community.

The UAE’s rise in the global sailing scene is further underscored by SailGP, one of the sport’s most elite competitions, which has made Dubai a permanent stop on its global tour. The synergy between high-profile international events and grassroots initiatives is creating unprecedented momentum, positioning the country as a leading sailing hub.

Strategic sponsorship and global partnerships

The race sponsors include Aramex as the title sponsor, Ulysse Nardin as co-sponsor and the official timekeeper, and Montegrappa, Beneteau, Elcome, and Marina Bandar Al Rowdha Waterfront & Marina Services as event co-sponsors.

Title sponsor Aramex is a renowned leading global provider of comprehensive logistics and transportation solutions, committed to ensuring the safe and seamless movement of both boats and sailors during the event.

Mike Rich, Group Chief Marketing Officer at Aramex, shares: “Aramex is proud to sponsor this iconic event, reflecting our commitment to innovation, connectivity, and precision. Supporting the Aramex Dubai to Muscat Offshore Race highlights our dedication to enabling swift execution and strengthening global connections.”

A global stage for offshore sailing

With each passing year, the Aramex Dubai to Muscat Race cements its position as one of the most thrilling offshore racing events in the region. As sailing continues to thrive in the UAE, this race serves as both a celebration of tradition and a launchpad for the future of offshore racing in the Middle East.

Ed Shiffner, Rear Commodore at DOSC comments: “We’re proud to partner with our esteemed sponsors whose support ensures the successful execution of this race. As the event continues to grow in stature and global appeal, it reinforces the UAE’s position as a leading hub for offshore sailing and maritime excellence.”
