The company’s first Mixed Reality device ushers in a new era of spatial computing and imaging innovation
Dongguan, China – August 21, 2025 – Celebrating its 30th anniversary, vivo hosted a landmark event, the vivo Vision Launch Event & Imaging Grand Ceremony, in Dongguan. The occasion not only reaffirmed vivo’s position as a leading smartphone innovator but also marked its official entry into the Mixed Reality (MR) market, with the debut of its first MR headset, the vivo Vision Discovery Edition.

The device represents the culmination of four years of intensive research and development, harnessing vivo’s deep expertise in imaging technologies, advanced sensors, and high-definition displays. With this launch, vivo steps into a new chapter that fuses spatial computing and immersive experiences with its evolving strategy in imaging innovation.
Hu Baishan: “Thirty Years of Passion and Humanity”
In his opening remarks, Hu Baishan – Executive Vice President & COO of vivo, and President of the vivo Central Research Institute – reflected on the company’s journey from its beginnings in Chang’an three decades ago:
“We are not here merely to honor the past, but to continue the path we set out on. A path that unites technology with humanity, passion with mutual benefit. Our mission is to let technology illuminate beauty, to bring our products to every user without exception. Our journey does not end at 30 years; it is the beginning of a century-long commitment driven by innovation and humanity.”
Vision Discovery Edition: Lightweight, Comfortable, and Immersive
The vivo Vision Discovery Edition sets new standards for the MR industry. Weighing only 398 grams, with a height of 83 mm and thickness of 40 mm, the headset is 26% smaller than the industry average—ensuring exceptional comfort for daily use and extended immersive sessions.
The design is the result of extensive human-factors research, featuring four light-seal sizes and eight foam padding options to guarantee an optimal fit, even during active movement.
Powered by OriginOS Vision, the device introduces natural, gesture-based interactions. Instead of traditional touch controls, users can navigate using intuitive “move-and-pinch” gestures. The headset integrates 1.5° precision eye-tracking, 26 degrees of freedom fingertip tracking, and a 175° vertical tracking range, offering seamless control across gaming, productivity, and entertainment.
8K Visuals with Cinematic Precision
At the core of the visual experience are dual Micro-OLED displays, delivering 8K binocular resolution, 94% DCI-P3 color coverage, and DeltaE<2 color accuracy—standards typically reserved for professional cinema monitors. vivo has also implemented rigorous calibration to reduce interocular brightness and color differences (≤2 nits brightness variance; ΔE<2 chromatic deviation), minimizing visual fatigue during prolonged use.
Performance is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon® XR2+ Gen 2 platform, offering 2.5x GPU performance and 8x AI performance compared to the previous generation. This ensures ultra-fast rendering, enhanced spatial computing, and robust performance across all applications.
Portable Cinema and Multi-Purpose Immersion
The device transforms entertainment by turning any room into a 120-foot virtual cinema screen. Users can enjoy blockbuster films in immersive quality, watch live sports or e-sports from multiple viewing angles, or even split the screen to follow multiple streams simultaneously—all without missing a detail.
A Revamped Imaging Strategy: Toward an Integrated Ecosystem
Alongside the MR launch, vivo unveiled a comprehensive upgrade to its imaging strategy, aimed at building a scenario-driven ecosystem. The strategy enhances capabilities across night photography, portraiture, telephoto, and video, meeting evolving user demands for diverse imaging scenarios.
Central to this vision is vivo’s long-standing collaboration with ZEISS, which continues to push the boundaries of mobile imaging. Building on achievements like the X100 Ultra and X200 Ultra, vivo is cementing its reputation as a global leader in professional-grade smartphone photography.
According to André Kutz, Head of ZEISS Photonics & Optics:
“Our collaboration with vivo has evolved beyond hardware and software solutions into a cultural and technological partnership. Together, we are innovating to meet the needs of consumers and the global imaging community, setting new standards for mobile optics and videography.”
Beyond Technology: Healthcare and Intelligent Imaging
vivo also revealed its ambitions in healthcare technology, announcing plans to combine the telephoto macro capabilities of the X200 series with medical-grade optics to develop a portable slit lamp—making ophthalmic diagnostics more accessible worldwide.
In parallel, vivo continues to advance its imaging algorithms, enabling true 30x telephoto performance supported by AI-driven quality enhancement and scene reconstruction. Its VS1 and V3+ imaging chips deliver advanced pre-processing to capture lifelike details even in challenging conditions, such as low light or fast motion.
Imaging Culture and Global Recognition
vivo is equally committed to expanding the cultural dimension of mobile photography. Through initiatives like the “Capture the Future” short film competition with UNESCO, and the first National Mobile Photography Exhibition with the China Photographers Association, vivo is redefining the intersection of technology and art.
The company also revealed the winners of the 2025 vivo VISION+ Mobile PhotoAwards, which attracted more than 500,000 submissions worldwide—all captured on vivo smartphones. These images highlighted authentic human stories and fresh perspectives on modern life.
vivo: Thirty Years of Human-Centered Innovation
After three decades of relentless innovation, vivo stands at the forefront of a new era. Its entry into Mixed Reality is not simply an expansion of its portfolio but a strategic leap that reinforces its mission: to deliver immersive, human-centric experiences through technology.
By deepening global partnerships, expanding its imaging ecosystem, and committing to user-first innovation, vivo has set the stage for the next hundred years—where technology not only connects people but also illuminates the beauty of life.
