The next chapter of AI is knocking on our doors, as AI agents like Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Gemini Spark, among others, are becoming mainstream, and they are genuinely quite useful for a lot of things, ranging from being your personal assistant all the way to helping you manage a small business. However, many are still quite hesitant about giving these agents access to your accounts and their sensitive credentials.
1Password thinks it has a fix for that trust problem. Its new 1Password for Agents platform lets AI agents sign in to your accounts without ever seeing or storing the passwords, sensitive information, or other credentials they need.
Here’s how it works
When an agent reaches a login screen, it identifies itself to 1Password using a unique digital key and asks for access to the required credential. You then see which login it wants and why, and approve or reject the request on your own device.
If approved, 1Password fills the credential directly into the sign-in form instead of handing it to the AI. Once the account is unlocked, the agent can continue its task, but the actual password stays inside 1Password.
We have already seen a version of this with Claude, where 1Password could fill login details while keeping passwords and one-time codes outside Claude’s context. The new platform is basically expanding support to other agents like Meta Muse, Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work, Dots, Grok Bot, Town Townie, and others.
Who can use it right now?
1Password for Agents is currently available at no additional cost for Individual and Family accounts hosted on 1Password.com. Muse and Grok Bot integrations are rolling out across platforms over the coming days, while support for Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work, Dots, and Town Townie is still on the way. Townie support is expected on the web and iOS first.
Each integration is opt-in, so connecting one agent does not automatically give it access to your 1Password vault. One limitation for now is that accounts hosted on 1Password.eu or 1Password.ca are not supported, and the exact availability and capabilities will vary depending on the agent.
