3 underrated shows on Peacock you need to watch in July

If reality shows were like water, then you might drown in all of the series that have recently been added to Peacock. Admittedly, there are more scripted shows on Peacock when NBC’s programming schedule is in season. But for now, finding something new to watch among the scripted shows is extremely difficult even if you’re just looking for television programs from the past.

To help you get more entertainment value out of your subscription, we’ve put together this list of three underrated shows on Peacock that you need to watch in July. In fact, there are so many episodes from our first choice that it might take you until the end of August to see everything if you spread out the episodes a little. Either way, these shows are waiting for you now.

The Closer (2005-2012)

The Closer has been off the air for almost 14 years, but in its era, it wasn’t just TNT’s signature original series but also one of the biggest hits on cable television. But in the streaming era, even shows like this one can be forgotten when there’s always something new. However, The Closer has something that many streaming and network series will never have: A seven-season run of 109 episodes and a direct sequel/spinoff series, Major Crimes, that ran almost as long.

Kyra Sedgwick’s Brenda Leigh Johnson is the titular “closer,” because she has a knack for getting suspects to break in the interrogation room and confess their crimes. Brenda picked up that skill while working for the CIA, but she uses it well as the LAPD’s deputy chief of the Major Crimes Division. And although most of the episodes are standalone stories, there are serialized elements about Brenda’s personal life and one of the hardest cases of her career that takes years to crack.

Undercover (2016)

Undercover is a one-season British drama that features 24‘s Dennis Haysbert as Rudy Jones, a prisoner who is on death row in the United States. But the primary focus is on an English woman, Maya Cobbina (Sophie Okonedo), a lawyer who has split her time between her career and her family in the United Kingdom and the United States where she fights to have Rudy freed.

Maya is also investigating the death of Michael Antwi (Sope Dirisu), but she’s unaware that her husband, Nick Johnson (Adrian Lester), is connected to both cases. Nick has been hiding secrets from his wife for years, and they’re threatening to destroy the family that they’ve raised together.

Pramface (2012-2014)

Pramface ended just over 10 years ago, but its premise remains timely. Laura Derbyshire (Scarlett Alice Johnson) and Jamie Prince (Sean Michael Verey) were only teenagers at the beginning of the show. But one night of premarital sex led to a pregnancy that changed the course of both of their lives. Almost everything they had in mind for their future went out the window in favor of raising their child.

Although Jamie and Laura weren’t a couple when they hooked up, they do develop romantic feelings for each other as the show goes on. The only question is if they can take the next step and actually be together before life pulls them in different directions.
