Gemini will let you change Google TV settings with voice commands

Google has announced a set of new Gemini features for Google TV at CES 2026, focused on making on-screen responses more useful and easier to understand from the couch. Google first introduced Gemini on Google TV last year as it moves toward replacing Google Assistant with Gemini on its devices.

Instead of short, text-heavy answers, Gemini on Google TV will lean into richer, more visual responses, including high-resolution images, relevant video context, and live sports information when it makes sense, helping users get clearer answers at a glance without pulling out their phone.

What Gemini can do on Google TV

One of the key additions is a feature called Deep Dives, which will be used to explain complex topics in a more accessible way. If you ask something like why a natural phenomenon happens, Gemini will be able to show a visual explanation and then offer an option to explore the topic further, all without interrupting what you are watching.

Gemini will also handle TV settings in a more conversational way. Instead of opening menus, users will be able to say things like the screen is too dim or the dialogue is hard to hear, and Gemini will adjust the appropriate settings automatically. This is meant to make everyday fixes quicker and less frustrating.

The update also extends into photos and creative features. Google Photos users will be able to search their libraries for specific people or moments using Gemini, apply artistic styles through Photo Remix, or create cinematic, immersive slideshows from existing images. Moreover, Google plans to bring content generation tools powered by Veo and Nano Banana, allowing users to create new images or creatively remix photos directly on their TV.

The Gemini upgrade for Google TV will roll out for free, starting with the latest TCL TV models, with other Google TV devices expected to follow in the coming months. Google only recently brought Gemini to the Google TV Streamer, so it may take some time before these new features roll out more broadly.
