TCL’s next gaming monitor could hit a staggering 640Hz refresh rate

Numbers in the gaming monitor world keep getting wilder, and the latest leak about the TCL CSOT is a classic example.

According to Visuntang, a channel information platform (via IT Home’s April 13, 2026 report), the Chinese display manufacturer is working on a gaming monitor capable of switching between 160Hz at a higher resolution and 640Hz at a relatively lower resolution.

Why Is A 4x Refresh Rate Jump Such A Big Deal?

That’s a 4x multiplier, and it’s a significant leap. Most dual-mode monitors available in the market limit their low-resolution, high frame rate boost to just 2x the high-resolution figure.

For instance, a monitor running at 160Hz would typically top out at 320Hz when dropped to 1080p. However, unlike conventional dual-mode monitors, the TCL CSOT’s upcoming model could deliver a much more dramatic jump.

HKC also has a similar 4x concept with 4K at 200Hz and FHD at 800Hz. Asus also has comparable offerings with 3x and 4x refresh rate switching. TCL’s 640Hz gaming monitor could launch in the third quarter of the year, but pricing and other details still remain under wraps.

What Does This Mean For Everyday Gamers?

For gamers, especially competitive players, higher refresh rates translate directly into smoother motion, faster reaction times, and reduced motion blur. It’s worth mentioning here that generating 640 frames per second would require some serious GPU horsepower.

Currently, there are quite a few ultra-fast refresh rate monitors available in the United States. These include the $1,099 Asus ROG Swift OLED (720Hz at 720p) and the $999.99 BenQ Zowie XL2586X+ (600Hz at 1080p). Then there’s the HKC ANTGAMER ANT275PQ MAX, which offers a 1080Hz refresh rate at 720p resolution.

It’s clear that the refresh rate war between gaming monitor manufacturers isn’t slowing down anytime soon. What makes TCL CSOT’s 640Hz panel notable is the 4x multiplier approach. If the company launches the monitor at a competitive price, it could pressure Asus, BenQ, and MSI to up their game considerably.
