OnePlus shows off a sick gaming-centric phone that you likely won’t get your hands on

OnePlus has a habit of building phones that make you sit up and pay attention, and its latest tease is no different. The company has just pulled back the curtain on the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra, a gaming-focused smartphone that looks like it was designed by someone who takes mobile FPS games very, very seriously.

It is built around one thing: Gaming

The Ace 6 Ultra is not trying to be everything to everyone. OnePlus has been upfront about what this phone is for, positioning it squarely at mobile gamers. The centerpiece of that pitch is a 165Hz display built in collaboration with BOE, tuned to meet what OnePlus describes as desktop gaming monitor standards. Whether it lives up to that claim in real-world use remains to be seen, but the ambition is clear.

On the contrary, subtlety was apparently not on the mood board for this one. The Ace 6 Ultra comes in an “Ace Awakening” colorway, featuring a large reflective Ace logo centered on the back panel. OnePlus says the effect is achieved through a 3D laser-etching process that essentially engraves light into the device, which looks absolutely striking in the teaser images.

Under the hood, the Ace 6 Ultra reportedly uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, a notable departure from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite in the standard Ace 6. Paired with a reported 8,500mAh battery and 100W wired charging, this phone seems built to handle marathon gaming sessions without tapping out halfway through. A large battery that also charges quickly is the kind of combination that mobile gamers have been asking for, and OnePlus appears to have taken that seriously.

But you probably cannot have it

Here is the part that stings a little. The Ace 6 Ultra is confirmed for a China launch later this month, but there is no word yet on whether it will make its way to global markets. OnePlus has a history of keeping its Ace lineup close to home, with only select models eventually crossing over internationally. So, unless you are in China or willing to import, this one might be a spectator sport for most of us.

Electronics, Mobile Phone, Phone

OnePlus also dropped a teaser for an entirely new form-factor device set to be revealed alongside the Ace 6 Ultra. For now, this is just a vague announcement. Whatever it is, the company seems confident enough to put it on the same stage as a phone that it is clearly very excited about. That alone makes it worth watching.
