AirPods Max 2 slide to just $399 ahead of Prime Day and I highly recommend you snag it

If you’ve had the AirPods Max 2 in your cart or wishlist for a while now, holding back because the asking price is too much, now is your chance to save big on Apple’s latest over-ear headphones.

Ahead of the Prime Day Sale 2026, the AirPods Max 2 are available for $399, which is $150 less than the $549.00 launch price. Do the math, and you’ll realize that it’s a massive 27% discount, which is rare for the latest Apple products.

What do you get for $399?

For those catching up, the AirPods Max 2 debuted in March 2026; they’re only three months old.

This represents Apple’s best in terms of over-ear headphones, and the sound quality doesn’t fall short. I’ve used the device briefly, and it actually sounds cleaner and richer, with more evident low-end and better instrument separation.

They’re equipped with Apple’s latest H2 chip, which unlocks noticeably better active noise cancellation than the first generation, along with a bunch of intuitive audio features like Adaptive Audio (tunes ANC and Transparency Mode in real time) and Conversation Awareness (one of my favorite AirPods Pro 3 features of all time).

Best in price for iPhone users?

Apple has also improved the connectivity features on this one. The device supports high-fidelity 24-bit/48 kHz lossless audio via a wired USB-C connection, making them great for picky or professional users. I don’t fancy wired connections, but for buyers who do, this could be a big addition.

Other Apple-ecosystem features include Live Translation, which provides real-time translation directly in your ears (with the supported language pack installed), and Head Gestures, which let you nod or shake your head to manage Siri alerts.

The Amazon price cut brings the AirPods Max 2 into a much more accessible segment, one where iPhone users are already spending on the Sony WH-1000XM6, which are excellent but lack the Apple-only features I mentioned. If you’re actually looking for over-ear headphones to pair with your iPhone, and budget isn’t a concern, AirPods Max 2 are a no-brainer at $399.
