Cinder City wants 64GB of RAM, and the rest of its PC specs make it even weirder

For years, PC gamers have joked that game developers treat hardware requirements like a shopping list. Cinder City might have just taken that joke a little too seriously. The game’s newly listed recommended PC specs ask for a whopping 64GB of RAM. That’s a figure that’s raising eyebrows because almost everything else on the list looks surprisingly… normal.

64GB RAM paired with an RTX 4060?

Here’s where things get weird. The Steam page recommends an Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, paired with 64GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB. That’s a combination that doesn’t quite add up.

If a game genuinely needed 64GB of system memory, most gamers would also expect it to demand a significantly more powerful graphics card. Instead, the recommended GPU is a mid-range RTX 4060 with just 8GB of VRAM, making the memory requirement feel strangely out of place.

The processor choices offer one possible clue. Both chips are strong gaming CPUs, particularly the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which could hint that Cinder City leans heavily on CPU simulation, AI, or large-scale world calculations. Even then, though, 64GB of RAM feels excessive. Most modern AAA games still recommend 16GB or 32GB, with only a handful of heavily modded titles or professional workloads regularly benefiting from 64GB.

Is this the future of PC gaming?

The funny thing is that PC hardware has never been more expensive. Between rising DRAM prices, SSD costs, and premium CPUs, building or upgrading a gaming rig has become a luxury for many players. Asking gamers to jump to 64GB of RAM, especially when 32GB has only recently started becoming the enthusiast sweet spot, is a big ask.

Man gaming on a PC Computer

To be fair, there’s also the possibility that the requirements simply aren’t finalized. Early Steam pages have been known to contain placeholder specs or overly cautious recommendations before launch, so these numbers may change. Until then, Cinder City’s spec sheet raises more questions than it answers. Maybe it’s genuinely pushing the boundaries of CPU simulation. Maybe the developers are future-proofing for the years ahead. Or maybe someone accidentally doubled the RAM requirement before hitting publish. Whatever the reason, pairing 64GB of memory with an RTX 4060 is certainly one way to get the PC gaming community talking.
