Travellers flying out of the UAE this weekend are advised to come to the airports early to avoid delays due to forecasted adverse weather conditions from the March 8 to 10.

Flights are currently operating as scheduled from Dubai International Airport (DXB), Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH) and Sharjah International Airport.

UAE-based airlines Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Air Arabia have not yet announced any flight delays.

In a statement sent to Khaleej Times on Friday, Etihad said: “Due to forecasted adverse weather conditions across the UAE from the March 8-10, passengers are advised to regularly check etihad.com for the latest information about their flight departure.

“Passengers are also advised to allow plenty of time to travel to the airport… The safety and comfort of our guests and crew is our highest priority,” the Abu Dhabi-based carrier added.

Peak of the weather condition

According to a forecast by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), “the peak of (adverse) weather condition is from Friday night and into Saturday evening.”

“The country will experience strong unstable weather conditions,” added NCM. “Cloud cover will increase across most of the country, accompanied by convective clouds associated with heavy rain, lightning, thunder and occasional hail in some areas. Strong winds associated with convective clouds could also cause a reduction in horizontal visibility.

Rain will continue on Sunday but will only be concentrated over the northern and eastern areas of the country. The unstable weather will gradually weaken and will be confined to the eastern areas by Sunday evening and into Sunday night.

It will be a dry Monday but there is a chance of fog formation in the morning.
